Connecting speakers to TV

How do I connect speakers marketed for PCs to my TV?  Do I need a TV with RCA input jacks?  I don't see RCA inputs listed in the TV specs.  Do they go by another name?  Do all the speakers have RCA cables?

Re: Connecting speakers to TV

Hi, it can be either through RCA output, optical out (certain speakers), or headphone output. What TV do you have?

Re: Connecting speakers to TV

I don't have the TV yet, but leaning towards buying either the 22" Dynex from Best Buy (DX-LTDVD22-09) or the 22" Samsung (LN22A330).  For the Samsung, I see "3W Audio Output" and "Optical Digital audio output for Dolby Digital" listed in the specs.  The Dynex specs say "A/V Output: No", and "Audio Outputs - 1".  Don't know what this means in terms of hooking up to speakers, such as the Logitech Z4.

Re: Connecting speakers to TV

Hi, i've looked up the televisions, and both TVs that you listed will work directly with the Z-4 speakers with no adapters needed because they both have headphone outputs. Just plug and play.

Re: Connecting speakers to TV

I had no idea headphone jacks could be used for anything other than headphones.  Thanks for the info.  Is the audio quality of that kind of connection as good as any other kind of connection, such as RCA cables?  Would I get stereo separation?

Re: Connecting speakers to TV

Is there any way to easily share a set of speakers between a PC and a TV?  Like an A/B switch or something similar?

Re: Connecting speakers to TV

Hi, there will be no loss of quality as the Z-4 inputs via a 3.5mm jack. Switches do exist, just google around for one.

Re: Connecting speakers to TV

Hi geo,

Be sure to use a switch that completely isolates each music source completely. You could damage either one or both of the music sources and or the speakers if both sources can out put to the speakers at the same time. In other words, a Y cable is not the answer.
