2.1/2.0 Speaker Systems (READ ONLY ARCHIVE)

Monitor connected to Verizon box via HDMI connection. Monitor has internal speakers. They are not very good. Purchased X-240 speakers to plug into the monitor's audio port. No sound coming from X-240 speakers (yes they are plugged in, connected and the light is on) only from internal monitor speakers. Any suggestions? No obvious setting on the monitor disable internal speakers.
