I've experienced the same w/ my Acer Liquid, Android 2.2 (upgraded from 2.1). Does Logitech have a fix for this?

I have a Samsung Galaxy 1 running Froyo with Alert 4.0. I'm having the issue that was original noted.

Last month after I stopped using the wifi (to conserve battery) I hit my 2G max but Tmobile couldn't tell me what it was that was consuming the data. I installed Traffic Monitor an it shows that when I use Alert for around 10 secs that I consume 6M. I always exit all apps using the back button. I'll check traffic Monitor app 30-60 mins later and it shows the Alert has used 77M.

I can also confirm this by looking at Data details on Tmobiles website. The times line up with the Alert usage time on the phone. I do not use my phone for much and typically use less then 2M in a day. I've been able to verify that Traffic Monitor shows very little usage until I use Alert. I'm only in Alert for just a few seconds. I think there is still a bug with 4.0 and hopefully Logitech will address this. Since this was a recent discovery in the past few days I will not use Alert on my phone for 2 weeks just to verify that my Data usage at Tmobile.com does not go anywhere during this time.

For what it's worth, I haven't seen the problem since I originally discovered it.  Although, I always exit the app by pressing Back.  I tried it just now, both using Back and Home.  I see no abnormal use of data while it is in use, and no use of data when the app is not active.  Still on HTC EVO 4G (rooted with CM7).  

To be sure Alert is doing it, use Traffic Stats app.  That will tell you app by app how much data is being used, rather than just an overall total like most traffic apps do.

Been almost a month since my last post and I tried Alert 3 more times in a controlled state, meaning I knew to watch for heavy traffic usage after using the app. All 3 times the traffic monitoring tool I use tells me around 6-10M of usage but 30 mins later Alert app is still pulling data. I wish Logitech would fix this. In the time being I either have to remeber to kill the Alert App after using it or go back to using Wifi. In the past month I used just under 1G. If it wasn't for Alert I'd probably be at around 200M for the month.

Rea2112, how are you exiting the app?  Is it via the home button or by hitting the power button?  On some phones we've seen that using the power button doesn't exit current running apps.  Depending on the manufacturer it may just turns off the screen so if you're live streaming it will continue to stream and consume data (until it times out and requests user intervention to continue).  If this is the case for you would you mind letting us know what phone you are using?  Also, try the two methods and see if you notice a difference in behavior.

Well I replied to this thread yesterday via my mobile but I guess it didn't upload.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S Adndroid.  I just used Alert and viewed all 3 cameras for 2-3 secs each. I tried the power button method and yes all that does is turn off the screen. When you turn it back on I'm still at the Alert home screen with my 3 thumbnail views. Ofcourse I've never used this method and I think anyone can deduce that exiting that way is really not an exit.

What I tried this time was to press the Home button.  It acts the same as using the back button and both methods keep the App running. I go to Settings, Application, Management Apps, Running Apps and I can see that Alert is still running. I'm quite aware that if I want to stop the video from streaming that all I need to do is force close the app but this is not a practical way to run an App. The Video streaming should stop once you press Back or Home button from an Android.

        So I spaced out killing the app cause I wanted it to run for a while to verify I'm still streaming and I forgot. 4 hours later I checked my phone and it was hot and locked up. I pulled the battery and after cooling, powered it up. Data monitoring apps and Tmobile's website both agree that I used 219M for the Alert app. I was at only 40M for the month since May 09 prior to running the Alert app. So the problem still exists and I'm sure I can duplicate this at will cuz so far in my last 6 tests every time I pull way more data then I should be for 2-3 secs of video viewing.

My OS is Froyo if that helps. Purchased phone new in July 2011.

I downloaded Alert 4.2 app and ran a video for a few seconds. Exited with the back button. Went to check on running Apps and I see Alert BUT the Force Stop is greyed out so I think that tells me the app is not running. This was around 2.5 hours ago. I checked Tmobile's site and my recent data uasge shows 5M at 1:30p MT which is about 30 mins before I ran the new app (Tmobile clocks could be off). I'll provide an update tomorrow. I'm going to watch more video now and check it later tonight and tomorrow on Tmobile's webiste. BTW the Data usage app on my phone doesn't show a big increase so that's good.

I used Alert app last night and checked usage via my Phone apps and Tmobiles site and no large downloads so this still shows that the new 4.2 version took care of the problem. Used Alert again this morning and my phone shows no additional usage. Just waiting on Tmobile to update but that takes a few hours. it's been an hour since I used the app this morn and Traffic monitor app still shows only 4.8M from this morning. That's good. I checked the running apps on the phone and Alert is not running. I do see the app under 3rd party apps but it has Force stop greyeed out so that shows it's not running either.

Logitech, thanks for taking care of this, I appreciate it. Now I can use the app and not have to worry about using up my 2G data plan.
