Re: Android app update failure issue

Since Google announced Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) and made the development kit available from the start of the announcement last month I hope that means Logitech is dedicating some resources (people) to freshen up the Android App so that it works better on Phones/Tablets etc. (which COULD help with trickyri's problem.

Trickyri, I think we went over this before - did you try the other web browsers available? (I think you or someone else had with no luck.)  Do you know anyone else with an EVO 4G?  Ideally if you could try the site on another EVO 4G that would tell us if the problem is on your phone specifically or the model; which would be a major step in figuring out the problem.  Heck, perhaps you could drop by the Sprint store and try the site on one of the demo units in the store if you don't have a second EVO available.

Also, is the Logitech app working for you on the phone?  It works for me on my ASUS Transformer (Honeycomb/3.2) but it loads sideways and if I change orientation while the camera is loading it stop loading and then goes back to the camera selection screen, certainly not ideal.

Re: Android app update failure issue

[ Edited ]

ASUS Transformer TF-101

Android v3.2.1

-Opening the app it always orients in portrait mode, even though the tablet is in landscape mode.

-Clicking a camera immediately goes to landscape mode (even if i am in portrait mode!)

Ok, so now when I switch orientation while the camera is loading it does NOT stop loading the camera, so scratch that one.  the only issue I see currently is that the camera selection screen is in portrait mode when the tablet is being used in landscape mode.

Also I just tried logging onto alert.logitech.com from the tablet and it worked fine while connected to the keyboard.  However, with the keyboard not connected the Android web browser doesn't seem to detect the email address box as a text entry field so it doesn't bring up the keyboard.  Using Firefox for Android yields no results as the site requires flash (and Firefox for Android doesn't yet support that.)

Speaking of Flash - Adobe just announed in the past 2 days that they are going to stop development of Flash for mobile devices etc. and suggested everyone move to their Adobe Air product instead; this may be a good reason to move the site out of Flash, at least for mobile devices since iOS (Apple iPhone / iPad) doesn't support Flash anyhow.

Re: Android app update failure issue

[ Edited ]

Hi,

I just bought the 750e. I live in France. The camera is working fine. The Alert Commander on my local PC is OK, as is access trough alert.logitech.com.

But.

The android app doesn't work well on my smartphone. I have a HTC Desire S with Android 2.3.3. The app shows me my list of cameras (so far just 1). When I tap the camera, 9 times out of 10, I only get "connecting to camera" and then sometimes an error message c504 (and sometimes just nothing). But then, some other time (could be just 5 minutes later or the next day) it just works...(without doing anything special)  It doesn't matter whether I am connecting to the Internet by WIFI or 3G: both are equally unreliable.

Re: Android app update failure issue

Hello Rudolph,

Can I get you to do the following :

1, Log out of the app

2, Clear the Cache and Cookie from your Android Phone

3, Turn off the Phone Completely and then turn it back on

4, Re-launch the app and try to log into the app.

Let us know how it goes. Would you also be able to let us know as to who your Cellphone provider is?

 Regards.

Re: Android app update failure issue

[ Edited ]

Hello Kiruban,

I did all this and it didn't change anything. I also uninstalled the app, rebooted the phone and reinstalled. The app works maybe 1 time in 5, both through WIFI and 3G. My cellphone provider is Orange, the most important one here in France. But I don't think the provider has anything to do with it: the problem is exactly the same when I use the WIFI.

From my laptop, using the   same WIFI Internet connection as my phone,  alert.logitech.com works flawlessly.

As others already mentioned, you can not use alert.logitech.com on the phones browser: the keyboard doesn't come up when you tap username field (I tried 3 differnet browsers: the Android browser, Dolphin and Opera mini).

When the app fails, in most cases it simply keeps saying: "Connecting to camera.....", sometimes it gives up with an error message (C504, but I have also seen C503). At the same time I am receiving E-mail alerts from the camera on my phone, so camera and phone connect to the Internet without a problem.
