Hello.. I have a large building with multiple fuse boxes so the powerline setup does not work for me. 

I purchased a PoE switch that seems to work good.  I bought some cat 5e cable in bulk but the cameras wont show up.  When I use the small thin cable they came with they all work fine directly off my switch.    I made some really short cat 5e cables when I was testing them.  Once I got one of them to go live, but the screen was black.   As soon as I plug in the network cable that came with them they all show up again. 

I ordered some bulk cat 6 cable today to replace my 5e cable I ran yesterday.   I really hope this works. 

Can someone tell me if the thin cable that comes in the box is cat 6?  There are no markings anywhere.

It must be a problem with installing the connectors on the bulk cable you bought...the cable itself is not the issue.  CAT6 is a little better than CAT5 overall, but it is a fairly subtle thing...something that helps mostly with very long runs.  The included cables are rated CAT5.

Are you crimping the cables yourself?

I am crimping the cables myself, but its pretty simple.  I have even ohm'd them out to make sure they are correct.  Here is some more informaton to my problem.

I have 3 cameras I am trying to get working....   If I make short cables like 2 feet long I can plug them into my PoE switch and they all work just fine. 

But the camera I'm trying to get working is about 20 feet away from the switch.  So I make a 20 foot cable and it just won't show up.  I dont get it.. from what I read I should be able to get 300 feet without problems.  

I have tried different cable...  different connectors...  and still nothing.  

Now I'm wondering if it's not the PoE switch I bought.   Here are the specs on it......

I tried CAT5e. The length is more than 50 feet. It works well. But I am using Logitech Powerline, not POE switch.

I run via PoE and have several cameras on 100 foot runs with virtually no impact to camera bandwidth.  The fact that the included cables work fine indicates something is surely wrong with the connector installation on the bulk cable...OR, that switch doesn't auto-sense the wiring ( mirror image kind of thing )...double-check how you did the 2 foot one vs the 20 foot one...it is always the simple things that are the most trouble <g>
