I have a 4 month old 700i security alert system with three cameras. I just installed the new software upgrade 3.0sp3. No problem. However, while I followed all on screen directions, the camera firmware to the new v196 tries to install. It appears to install. But the old version still appears after the process completes.. And the new camera firmware is available window comes up every few minutes and i reapeat the process. It goes through the whole routine again but no firmware is installed.
Do I have to "reset" the cameras? Or???? Any advice is appreciated.

There are many events which will still trigger motion, for example:
- snow
- combination of IR light and fog/humidity/precipitation
- shadows from trees swaying in the wind
- lights, reflections, and shadows from passing cars
- cats, birds, insects,…
- shadow from bird passing overhead
Some of these events may be minimized by adjusting the sensitivity and detection area. But the first two, snow and IR/fog, I do not see any remedy for. That will probably require processing power far beyond the processor in the camera, if solvable at all.
I am very happy with this software update; keep up the good work, Logitech!
Thanks for the report, Pluto1. Quick question: are you using a secondary IR source, or just the normal IR illuminators in the outdoor camera?
One thing I've noticed with my own outdoor cameras is placement matters a lot. In particular, I get better results when I put the camera under an eve, and even better results if I move it farther under the eve. This is because under the eve, you won't get snow/rain being illuminated by IR right in front of the lens anymore, which for me was a major source of "pretty obvious yet painfully boring" recordings. I also think I generally get a little better image quality, maybe because the lighting is more consistent?
Of course that won't help with shadows from swaying trees, insects, reflections from passing cars, etc; but it does help with rain and snow a lot.

@Luckyboy,
Resetting the cameras might help? If that doesn't work, I'd contact support. Sounds like the update's failing for some reason, and they'll be able to help you out.

@jnoring
No, I am not using any secondary IR source. All three outdoor cameras are actually placed under an eve, about 1 - 2 feet from the edge, so there is no snow or rain right in front of the lens (snow is not a big concern here, since the precipitation is mostly rain during the winter). There is not much else I can do with the placement, so I guess I just have to accept those extra events.

I have 8 of these systems and I am having problems with one of them completing the update on the cameras. It keeps failing. I get a data transfer error on every camera every time. Does anyone have any advice to get these camers up to the latest firmware? I tried to just do them one at a time but that didn't work either. I have 6 cameras on my system. Two outside and 4 inside.
Thanks

@bbost
That's odd. Does the data transfer error happen immediately, or after it transfers a bit? And does it ever get to the "Programming..." phase? Maybe try resetting the cameras, and then doing the update? If possible, you might also try updating with a different computer, just in case some antivirus/firewall thing is blocking on the computer you're currently using.
If that doesn't work, I'd contact support so we can troubleshoot the issue and get those cameras updated. if you do manage to update on your own, let us know what the trick was.

updated 5 cameras yesterday, 0 problems! i think the sensitivity thing is slightly better with tracking motion within custom zones, and ignoring things outside the zone.

Is it better to have zones... I am just telling it to alert on wherever the cam sees LOL so I get a lot of alerts. I was worried the zones might fail me.

i have my camera shooting into the driveway/street. if i didn't have zones, i would get too many messages about movement when a car drives by.
