Hi, i´d like to see the snapshot feature as well. I´d like to document my garden growth and want to take a picture - lets say every 60 minutes - and create a time wrap movie using these pictures. I was so sure that every webcam is able to do this so i didn´t check this feature in detail. But the cam can´t do this!!! So pleaaaaaase add this feature soon....

I believe there are some other video software titles available that can work with the Logitech cams and provide the video snapshots you're hoping for.  That may be a good solution for you until the feature is available on the Logitech platform.  I'd suggest some names to you but 1. I don't actually know them and 2. I have no personal experience with them to say if they actually deliver.

If you read some of the other forum posts I believe you'll find references to the other titles.

How about an option to specify a box within the field of view where the auto-exposure calculates the exposure?  In my system, when in night mode, the auto-exposure gets confused by objects in the foreground that reflect the IR light, so the background is underexposed.  Also, this would help a lot when switching from daylight to night mode in that the box could be placed somewhere that isn't affected by lights.

This feature is analogous to spot metering on a camera. 

The current software seems to calculate the exposure based on the average of the entire field of view.

New Feature Request:

Direct recording to network drive without any computer on.

Since most people have network storage on their home network now and those storage is on 24/7, and cameras are on the same network, I don't think this is a hard thing to do. When we have this feature, nobody need to worry about the storage space (I have 4TB on mine) and stolen SD card anymore (as long as they can't find your networkdrive)...

Ditto. Or a server version of the software.  I thought that the WiLife system could run on a MS server.

Multiple Zoom / Motion Detect Profiles

It would be good to have multiple profiles for zoom and motion detect zones/sensitivity, selectable by hour/day-of-week schedule.  For daytime I want a wide view, but a wide view at night catches parts of the structure near the camera that reflect brightly in IR, and bias the useful parts of the image down to darkness.

Playback Time Cursor Behavior Needs Improvement

The time cursor behavior in speed-up playback, makes no sense.  The time cursor is moving according to some function that is not at all true to the playback rate.

Time cursor behavior on scrolling the playback time window (right/left corner arrows) also makes no sense.  The cursor should 1) stick to its current absolute time location as long as that time remains with the window then 2) re-center once that time location scrolls outside the window.  Logic analyzer user interface designers had more suitable time cursor behaviors all the way back into the 1980s.

Deleted Clips may not Stay Deleted

Clips that you delete within the playback window, appear to be repopulated from the camera if the camera gets reset after the delete.

Clip Deletion Needs Time Range Capability

Weather events can generate bursts of motion-triggered clips of no real surveillance interest.  Clip-by-clip deletion is very tedious, and what shows on the screen as one clip, can actually require several delete actions to delete all segments.  There desperately needs to be a way to mark two ends of a time range, then delete every unprotected clip within that time range.

Protect Marking Needs Extension to Multiple Categories, Category-based Review

Protect marking needs to be generalized to allow several user-determined categories to be marked and distinguished by colors (like Protected clips are distinguised by red today).  I might want to mark familiar-vehicle clips in one color, suspicious-vehicle clips in another color, and suspicious-person clips in yet another color.

Better, the user should be allowed to define a number of categories each with an associated color (several categories might share one color), and the ability to tag a clip into one or another of these categories.

There also then needs to be a roster display list of clips sorted by category then time, where you can click on a given clip's roster line to play it back, and with space to enter some notes from review of the event.

This is important to aid systematic gathering/review of information about suspected/repeated behaviors of an extended period of time.

Two hardware suggestions for future camera generations:

1. Move the microSD card from the exterior camera head to the power supply.  A thief may have access to a camera head but not the power supply if the installer has plugged the supply into AC in a secure location.
2. How about a clear plastic cover for the power supply on the exterior camera so that the network communication LEDs can be seen without taking the cover off?

One more hardware request.

I love the Alert system but cameras which must be installed remotely do not work well (or at all) in my system.

• It would be great if there were a model of camera that had a standard RJ45 connector that you could run a network line to instead of using the powerline network adaptor.
• I would like to be able to install multiple powerline network adaptors around the house so that cameras in remote locations will work.  I currently would like to purchase more cameras but can not due to the fact that the powerline network adapter can either be on one side of the house or the other.  None of the cameras work if it is installed in the middle.  (This is where the direct network capable cameras would be used)

You can already do that with any camera. The powerline adaptor plugs into a regular RJ45 port. I have all my cameras running via POE switch and I don't use powerline adaptors at all.

But you still need PoE switch instead of a regular switch, right?

I think this is a simple modification: if you want to use a standard network line and router/switch as MikeDeSantis, you only need to find out which pins on RJ45 Logitech use to provide power to their cameras. Then on the regular switch side, you cut those wires out and connect them to a power adapter with the right voltage.

The only thing I am not sure is if Logitech software could recognize the cameras connected this way.

BTW, I just checked and found pin 4 and 5 are for DC positive and 7 and 8 are for negative. But the voltage is different from different manufacturers. It could be 12, 24, or even 48 VDC. I don't know what Logitech use but it's a simple measurement.
