Please tell me why I need a WIndows based machine to run the Alert Commander software? In particular v3.1 that was just released. Why isn't the software available for Macs or at least a fully functional iPad app (with the exception of storage)?

I could not agree more. In 2012, developing consumer software that is Windows only is utterly insane, and a sign of complete failure of product management (or maybe the BA). From a technical perspective, choosing .NET as a development platform locked Logitech (WiLife) in from the start. Creating a Mac version requires that they start development over completely. Something that they will not likely do until a complete (and likely incompatible) product refresh.
FYI to fill the gap I created a utility that can view live feeds and download recording that is Mac compatible. (Available at https://github.com/szatmary/iAlert/downloads) It is not feature complete (or easy to use), hence it cannot replace Alert commander completely. If I had some financial backing form Logitech, or the community, I could commit more of my time to the project. But alas, I am forced to keep my day job until that day comes.
