Web Commander premium play back issue

I have subcribed Web Commander premium service. It seems it is only a proxy between the web browser and the camera. All the recorded videos are still stored in the camera SD card. When I disconnected the camera, I couldn't see any recorded video in this camera. How to play the previous videos of offline camera? If I can't play it, it seems the premium service will be useless. Because if someone enters this house and takes away the cameras and the computer, The only record which I can find is the alert email. If the picture in the email doesn't have the photo of intruder, I will have nothing.

Re: Web Commander premium play back issue

You are correct that Web Commander plays video directly from the camera. So if someone steals the camera, then the recorded clips will not be viewable from Web Commander. I have heard this concern voiced a few times here on the forums, so you may want to search the forums to see if there is a solution that suites your needs. That being said, there are a few ways to guard against this:

1. Camera security. Generally you want to place the camera in a location in which it is difficult to tamper with. You will notice that every professional installation of cameras has them placed in a manner that makes accessing them difficult. Like if you go to a store or something they are out of reach. Generally speaking, thieves are in a rush, the more difficult it is to casually access the camera the less likely it is to be tampered with.Sometimes this is not easily accomplished which is understandable. Try and do what you can to keep the camera safe.

2. Use the PC Commander software in conjuction with an online archiving service like DropBox or Skydrive. So when you have a PC running, the camera automatically sync's its video to the PC. This creates a separate layer of security, so the thief would have to steal the camera and the PC. If you also set the PC video archive directory to be automatically synchronized with DropBox, then your video will be uploaded to the cloud service automatically. This would make it very difficult to destroy the evidence.

Good luck, and post back what method you decided to persue!

Re: Web Commander premium play back issue

Hi, vbilings,

Thanks for your information.

For camera security, I have bought some outdoor enclosures. No good solution.

For the software issue, I hope Logitech can provide a good solution. Such as: automatically upload the video to FTP servers or provide API. I have my own dedicated servers. It is better if I can download the video from remote server. If use DropBox or Skydrive, I have to let my home computer always on. It wastes energy.

Thanks.
