I bought the F540 headset and they are great for listening to music, watching movies and playing games. When it comes to using chat over Xbox 360, it's a different story. I get this horrible annoying hiss every time I plug in the cable to connect to my controller for voice chat.

I  pin pointed the problem and the hiss starts as soon as I plug in the 2.5mm cable to my headset, even when I haven't plugged the other end to the controller. I exchanged them at Best Buy for another F540s but I'm still having the same problem. Does anyone have a fix for this problem?

I to have the exact same problem I bought mine about 4 days ago, I was going to replace my

turtle beach x41's with these.

it is a problem with the 2.5mm jack for sure

if you slowly slide the jack into the headset and right before it seats (snaps) stop you will have mic and perfect sound

this is not a true fix just a work around

it seems as if the plug itself is about 1-1.5mm to long and is causing noise issues

I would love to hear back from logitech on this

I discovered the same problem, and found the same work around, just try not to plug it in all the way.  Definately not a solution.

I called Logitech and after more than an hour on the phone, they said it had to be a short in the cable.

I got another headset, same problem.

Just got off the phone with US based Logitech support.

These headsets are incompatible with Microsoft XBOX 360.

When you plug the cable in, they said it picks up on something transmitted in the spectrum used for the chat.

Now I have to return these and find something that works.

LOL, this product IS actually designed to work with Xbox 360 and PS3... I really do not understand why they told you that.
