Re: G27 and GT5

I see lots of you having success using the G25 wheel with GT5, but can someone tell me what wheel or device you select in setup to get as far as you do.

Truthfully (as a digital marketer) who do you think the general public will blame for the fault, a $60-$80 GT5 game or a $300-$400 G27 ?

To me the answer is easy the G27, we paid over $300 for this wheel, and a firmware upgrade can fix the problem, you would get alot of brand loyalist.

Re: G27 and GT5

just wanted to throw in my two cents.  my wife bought me the g27 and the playseat for christmas and im really enjoying it.

i have the stick shift adapter that bolts to the side of the chair which is amazing.  once i began using the stick to play the game it seriously changed my entire experience.  i would normally use the paddle shifter, and still may for serious racing, but the stick shift is just so much fun.  gt5 allows you to shift without the clutch or with the clutch.  once you engage the clutch, however, you cannot, in the same race, revert back to just shifting without clutch.  using a clutch is a new for me in a racing game as ive never had a setup like this before. i enjoy how rewarding it feels when you get it right.  i highly recommend a play seat if you can afford it and are planning on playing gt5 and playing it for the long haul.

as far as the g27 is concerned im still getting used to the nuances of the force feed back.  i have some mixed feelings.  i'll start by saying that my only experience with a wheel before the g27 has been the microsoft wheel with forza 3.  im used to that wheel and i like how it performs.  when the wheels break loose in forza 3 i can feel it and control the slide very well.  right now, with my g27, i am not able to do that.  i cannot tell when my tires are sliding.  the g27 always feels heavy.  it may not be fair to compare the two its all i have to go by.   im hoping i just need some more time to adjust, but right now im unable to complete a lap with a vehicle prone to fish tailing.  with smaller cars, the mini coopper for example, are fun to control and maker for a great experience.  right now im level 15 A-spec using the controller.  since i just got the g27 im having to relearn how to play essentially.  perhaps when PD patch in full support for the g27 ill be able to better manage the the functionality.  if anyone has any tips on settings to change that have helped them please let me know.

also, i tried out the rally racing with the wheel but i get nervous because the force feedback is very intense and i heard these terrible clicking, almost grinding noises that make me feel like my wheel is being damaged.  does anyone else experience this?

as far as the button mapping is concerned it does not bother me.  i know where the buttons i need are and make do.  i cannot get my cars to reverse with stick so i keep the controller on hand for quick reversing.

excited for my purchase and look forward to using the g27 and playseat for years to come.  both feel solidly built, although painful to assemble.

Re: G27 and GT5

harrytand, I also have some issues with the force feed back when playing GT5. I would like to change the settings for it.

In Dirt 2 there are three settings. The first setting is the surrounding feedback, which means that you can change the "terrible clicking" part you are talking about. It is suppose do make you feel that you are running on gravel. In Dirt 2 i only use 10%, or else it is to intense. The second setting is the force feedback, which i have at 70% in Dirt 2 (I like it a little ruff... but not 100% ruff...). The third is the setting of the wheel weight, which means how hard it is to turn the weel. Now This setting I use 40% to 50%, not more. It is too heavy if 100%. Now in GT5 the only setting which is available is the force feedback. Unfortunately this only applies to the GT5 wheel (DFGT) so nothing happens when changing this. Now, comparing the Dirt 2 setting and GT5 setting for the environment, force and weight feedback the settings is 100% in all three in GT5. I don't like that at all. I really would like to lower the feedback, but unfortunately I can't. This is not fun at all and instead I use the PS3 controller when playing GT5.

I really hope that Polyphony Digital (the word Polyphony suggests a place where independent parts mix together in harmony) can cooporate with Logitech and mix together in harmony and fix this! It seems to work prefect with all other games, but not the GT5. I think it is very bad from Polyphony Digital to demand Logitech to make changes. Logitech makes products to work with everything and ALOT of games. GT5 is only for the PS3. It takes alot more to make something work for PS3 and PC than only PS3... Now, Polyphony Digital should adapt to the products out there, not the way around. I mean "Polyphony"... That is what I think anyway.

Please, anyone at Logitech, have you heard anything from Polyphony Digital regarding G27 and GT5?

Re: G27 and GT5

I just bought this webcam and ask for somebody to explain to me what I do in order to use it.  It is tough to figure out how to use.  My brother in law uses yahoo free and I need directions in order to figure out to talk to my niece on Xmas.  Help.

Re: G27 and GT5

[ Edited ]

Just thought I would toss in some info:

I have the G27 and GT5 and here is what works and doesn't:

Tach lights, paddle shifters, H shifter and throttle work as expected.

The clutch works but has a very small in/out range and is nerfed shifting into 2nd gear - this is apparently a GT5 thing and is rumored to be because people could game the clutch going into second to gain an unrealistic advantage so you have to be VERY careful while clutching into 2nd.  Many people just don't use the clutch and power shift through second, then engage the clutch when they are safely in third to avoid off the line mis shifts.  Also note for GT5 you must fully let off the throttle before clutching or it won't work.

The brake pedal in GT5 is super touchy, it's just how GT5 handles it, you go full lockup after only pressing the brake pedal half way.  Brake bias settings can help.

Force feedback works exactly like I would have expected and I think those with FFB problems must have individually faulty wheels... mine works fine for hours at a time (although it has developed a bit of a squeak :smileysad: )

Buttons that don't work:

L3 and R3 (the outside red buttons on the shifter assembly).   Also the buttom 4 buttons on the steering wheel do nothing.  The game simply doesn't even see them.  These buttons DO work in other games on the PS3 (somewhat even in GT5P) so it's clearly not a Logitech issue here, it's a PD/GT5 issue.

You CANNOT access the RA menu.  You can map it to whatever buttons you want, but it will never be brought up on the screen.  By mapping it to a button you just waste that button.  The workaround for this is to have a DS3 controller, change it to be controller 1 (it will default to 2 or higher if a wheel is plugged in when the PS3 is powered on) and assign RA function to the DS3 controller.  Then when you want to access RA use the controller.  **bleep** but that's it.

Now for the kicker:

The G25 does not have these problems.

On the G25 the L3 and R3 buttons work fine and are programmable and the RA menu DOES work when assigned to a button.

PD has given G27 users the shaft... especially considering the G27 worked MORE in GT5P than it does in GT5.

PD has just announced their is a new oficial GT wheel coming from Thrustmaster for $500 (without a stick shift even) and my money is on PD nerfed the G27 intentionally as it's the biggest competitor to the new official wheel and they have a financial incentive to push people to the new Thrustmaster wheel rather than the cheaper and well liked G27.

Re: G27 and GT5

Kinda looks like all of us who supported your product are being kicked to the curb.  Poly has answered our complaints by way of  Thrustmaster.  Now what?  $300 is a lot of money to me.  It's time to quit looking at the other guy to fix the problem.  Show us your loyalty and make this right.

I have been waiting and waiting for Logitech and PD to address the lack of G27 support!

I have now reccomended that others not buy logitech products period!

How dare you still claim that the G27 supports GT5!  Shame on you!!!!!

Re: G27 and GT5

I agree with Devedander, TM paid the vig for a licensed "official" wheel and now Sony is nerfing the closest competitor - the G27.  Not happy at all.

Re: G27 and GT5

[ Edited ]

How exactly is the G2x ANY LESS Licensed then the Thrustmaster?

Logitech have to get there License NOT from Polyphony Digital, but from SCE of (A,E or J).

Which as I've gathered they did, or can they [Logitech] plaster unlawful Certs all over the Box that the G27 also worked on the X360?

If that were the case, then I would certalnly be giving Logitech a lot more greaf right now.

I'm sure their'd be plenty of 'Merikans out there ready to file a Classaction Suit againt such a Company who'd pull a stint like that, let alone S0NY or Microsoft, if only to protect there Brand.

I think we G2x'ers need to take this fight not to Logitech, nor Polyphony Digital (As the latter has shown no interest in the matter), but to your local branch of the SCE in my case E-urope, AND DEMAND to know why I purchased a €400.00(EUR) G27 which was SOLD TO ME AS A FULLY LICENSED Peripheral for the PS3, just so happens NOT to work on the ONE GAME where such support was not only expected, but demanded from the start?

And demand an ETA as to when SCE will turn the hand of PD to get thier Sh*t together, and add full support FOR ALL WHEELS, and not just the Ones that they [PD] want.
