Re: Gran Turismo 5 & Logitech G27

I had the G27 wheel for a couple of days, purchased direct from Logitech, and I loved the build quality, felt great, awesome wheel.

The problem that I had was when racing, the wheel would lose calibration.  Basically you start the race with the wheel perfectly centered, then when you finish the race, it would return to 15-20 degrees to one side or the other.  What I was hearing at the time was that something was off with the optical encoder not reading fast turns, or something.

Is this fixed in the newer wheels?  I'd love to have a quality wheel like the G27, but if I'm going to spend $300 or so on, let's face it, a toy - it needs to be perfect.

Ok, fair is fair. I just recieved a call from Logitech customer service, they are fully takng care of this situation to my complete satisfaction.

Thank You Logitech for listening.:smileyhappy:

Is logitech still the right choice for GT5?

Just got off the phone with Logitech support due to a problem with my 4 month old G27.
It appears Logitech's reputation for above and beyond customer service is simply now by reputation only, and the reality stands in stark contrast.
My biggest problem is not wanting to be without the wheel, period.
Take my CC number, send me a replacement and Ill send the defective unit back or charge my CC, simple, common and reasonable.
Not for Logitech.
While trying to explain that I simply cannot afford to be without the wheel as I am in the midst of of a long running championship series, it was clearly falling on deaf ears.
I told them that this was the reason I spent 300 bucks because I simply cannot afford reliability issues, if it didnt matter I woulda spent 60 bucks on something from Madcatz.

At this moment I am annoyed, as the reps I was dealing with could seem to care less that for me, this was something that mattered.
If your gonna buy Logitech for reliabilty and consistency, think twice, if you choose to buy anyway, pay the extra for IN STORE REPLACEMENT, because you will get much more from them than you will from the manufacturer.

Wishing now I had bought the Thrustmaster :-(

well it's been awhile though that i replied but the g-27 finally after a long wait works as it should in gt5.

shame though since they have a long running partnership with logitech though.

Just bought G27 to use on GT5, same problem here, it loses calibration often, I think generally after a race with hard steering though not sure. FWIW, mine always biases in the same direction to the left, and if it's a little off at the start of the race, it's ridiculous by the end of the race. Disconnecting & reconnecting the USB plug solves the problem, but it's a pain to do it before most races.

I'm still inside the 30-day return period for Amazon, wondering if anyone has a solution to this losing calibration problem, or if I should return it. Other than this problem, it's a great-feeling wheel, but I don't want to live with this problem.

Re: Gran Turismo 5 & Logitech G27

Hello

I recently bought a G27, though it was second hand, but still had the protective films on the center badge and the aluminium plate of the shifter.

I wanted to ask how much backlash the wheel should have? I'm talking not about the in-game FFB deadzone, but the play between the gears the wheel has even when it's turned off. Mine has maybe a bit less than 2mm at the edge of the rim, seems not much but can get annoying. I think the backlash has increased since I bought it after giving some relatives a spin with the wheel (it was really painful to watch them abuse it). Maybe I'm just paranoid, since I'm not used to spending such money on stuff like this, and now thinking that it works not as it should.

Maybe I should open it up and move the motors in their mounts closer to the main gear since I don't have warranty anyway? I'm quite good at understanding mechanics and it's not like I have other options in my 'third-world country'.

Re: Gran Turismo 5 & Logitech G27

Trying to gun down first to second needs to be done smoothly or it'll go straight to N because its still a circuit board after all.

And I've owned my G27 a little over a year now, good usage: does anyone have a issue with their pedals?

For me, my accelerator kinda twiches sometimes, gotta full throttle kick to get it to stop; sometimes doesn't help but it doesn't matter much when racing.

Re: Gran Turismo 5 & Logitech G27

I would simply just love if there was a wheel that could incorporate the shifter into the wheel instead of having it seperate. :smileysad:

Re: Gran Turismo 5 & Logitech G27

(My its been a long time is this Thread still kicking?) To everyone who has the "Calibration" bug GT5/PS3 might I ask about how good your driving is? The slightest "bump" your Car takes in the Game will cause some level of damage to said Car. This Damage is then reflected (in my experience), to the Wheel. A subsequent pitstop / re-start of that Track / Event is enough to reset this supposedly gimpy steering. Just saying it ~might~ not be the Wheel that you should blame....
