my MacBook Pro has a bunch of keys along the top that have very small "F1" .. "F12" labels in the corners. mostly those keys are used for media controls, volume and brightness. presumably there's also some way to just use them as function keys but I don't know what.

I do not work for Logitech. I'm just a user.

You could write a test script that will press all the scancodes from 1-120 and find out what scan code is responsible for those keys. All the keys on keyboards have a scan code, Mac or PC.
