G110 Keyboard layout question

[ Edited ]

Hi everyone,

This is my first post here :smileywink:

In a lot of pictures I've seen that the G110 has a normal qwerty layout, with a big shift button on the left and a normal sized enter key. But after reading some reviews I started to notice all their keyboards had a small shift key on the left and a big fat enter key on the right. Now I'd like to know if the one with the normal layout is still in production (that is with the normal sized enter key and normal/bigger left shift key)?

The reason I ask is because the layout with the small shift key doesn't appeal to me at all because I use that left shift much more often then the enter key (at least while gaming, the purpose this keyboard was made for, right?!). And I think the normal enter key is big enough as it is, I don't need an even bigger one.

Images for clarification purposes, the first picture has the layout I'm looking for, the second is the layout I've seen in reviews and is the one I don't want:

Anyway, any information on how I could get (or not) a keyboard with the advertised layout would be nice :smileywink:

btw, I wanted to ask this via email, but I couldn't find any email address that didn't require me to enter a serial number or anything.

Re: G110 Keyboard layout question

the large shift key is typical of US keyboards, while the smaller shift key and fat enter key are typical in non-US keyboards.

Ok, so I should try to get a US version I guess :smileywink: Don't know if that's possible here in the Netherlands though, otherwise I'll have to get a delivery from the US -.-

Edit: Apparently the one with big enter and small shift is the "US international" version, I don't know if there is a just US version.

Re: G110 Keyboard layout question

I'd guess there is a "just US" version, since you have a picture of it.  for this purpose "US International" counts as non-US.

Re: G110 Keyboard layout question

Thanks for the help :smileywink: I'm gonna ask some stores here in the Netherlands first if they have it or if they can get it for me, if not I guess I'll have to find an American online shop that's willing to ship the keyboard to europe. I've already looked at newegg, but it seems they only do America, at least I can't find a way to properly enter my address during registration.

Re: G110 Keyboard layout question

Well so far no luck anywhere locally and I've been asking some American sites if they can confirm the type they're shipping and from one I haven't heard anything so far and the other just has the excuse that the warehouse and support are at different locations so he can't confirm it (then you call the warehouse and ask someone there, but I guess that's an impossible task -.-). I did find a company that acts as an intermediate for shipping, so I can order even at stores that don't ship to europe normally. I'm gonna ask some more sites, but my patience and hope are starting to wear thin. I mean I'm willing to ship from the US, but I do like some confirmation on which type they ship, I mean shipping something around the globe isn't exactly cheap -.-

I'm actually surprised how hard it is to get a keyboard with another layout and to get some form of confirmation from a store...

Re: G110 Keyboard layout question

Hey! I got the exact same problem with getting a G510. Ordered my keyboard from an online store, hooked it up, started using it, then suddenly i started hitting enter instead of a backslash.. only then I saw that the layout was different!! Grrr!

I've been looking for many many hours for the right keyboard over here (netherlands) as well, but so far, no luck. Many stores say they have the US version.. but it always turns out to be the US international version (920-002766). The one I need is 920-002530.. it's so stupid I can't get this version anywhere, except importing it from the US or Canada, making it almost cost twice as much! :smileysad:

I'll never understand why they won't ship the most basic type of layout (US) worldwide? I'm not gonna work (i'm a programmer) with multiple layouts on different workstations..

Oh.. and on a side note: Why, oh why isn't there a USB hub on the G510??! Is that intentionally done to frustrate us?.. "I want a G110! Oh wait, only 2 colors! Sure, I'll cash out more for the G510.. oh wait.. no usb hub!!" *twitch*..

Either way.. if I won't be able to buy either one of these keyboards with the standard US layout for a reasonable price, I won't be buying them at all, and I guess I should start looking for a different brand to buy keyboards from in the future..

Re: G110 Keyboard layout question

re: no USB hub in the G510.

there are two reasonable possibilities that come to mind:

motherboards with X58 chipsets have issues with keyboards connected via USB 2.0 hubs.  Logitech included USB 2.0 hubs in the G19 and G110, and there's a sticky thread at the top of this forum full of posts from angry users who blame Logitech for this problem with the X58.  since this is a chipset problem, there's nothing Logitech can do about it, but a lot of users refuse to believe it.  so I suspect that they have addressed the complaints by eliminating the USB hub.  no hub, no problems with flaky X58 systems, and no blame directed at Logitech.

the other possibility is simply that the LCD consumes enough power that you can't put both a USB hub and an LCD into a keyboard unless you also include an external power supply (like the G19 uses).  an external power supply increases the cost of the product, and reduces the reliability, so there are good reasons to leave it out.

I kind of lean towards the first possibility.

Re: G110 Keyboard layout question

Well I got lucky enough that my uncle in the US was willing to buy a true US version and ship it to me for free, I've never asked about the bill (assuming he would let me know) but he never asked for the money.

But yeah I think your only option is to get one from there or indeed look for a different brand because logitch clearly doesn't give a crap about what their customers want (or at least the individual customer, just like pretty much every other company out there these days). My uncle bought the one I have now at a local bestbuy (I think it was even discounted back then) and mailed it with the US international postal service. Other then that there isn't a lot I can do for you, maybe try to get a nice uncle in the US yourself? :smileytongue:

btw, the reason I went for the G110 was because of the price and I only wanted a basic-ish keyboard with blue backlights (you'd be surprised how hard it was to find a keyboard with blue backlights, I dunno if it got any better since I got this keyboard but I doubt it), so yeah the G110 fit that bill perfectly except for the retarded international layout that's useless for gaming, and now apparently also for programming (which I can understand, I'm a bit of a scripter myself :smileywink:).

Anyway enough ranting for now, good luck on your search and I hope you can find something that suits your needs.
