First off i love this product! i love it so much i want it to be better. so heres how to do it:
Dedicated site for g15 g13 users links to software and list of games in one place would be handy!
First would be nice if for key mapping you went over to your Setpoint software or a setpoint expansion software many users already have it for other products (i have it for my DINOVO EDGE)
But thats unlikly to happen so, READ ON.......
Existing Key Profiler Software needs help
- GUI Graphical User Interface
- looks need updating - dropdown and popup menus remind me of windows 3.11 looks way to 2D-ish i think its the thin line bordering and no shadow effects..
- save folder for profiles instead of import/export xml files in a hidden folder. use location like (VISTA) c:/users/(Current User)/Saved Games/Logitech/g13profiles/ not hidden in the appdata folder with cryptic names for the profiles.
- add "save as.." menu option. to add ability to save profiles modified from other profiles or modified from the default.
Some users may want several similar profiles with the same macros for the same application or to modify an original or default profile. right now a user must export then import a file to do this. I have. this happens to everyone the first time they go to setup a profile without going to "New profile" first. instead many users naturaly start tinkering around with the defualt set then go to save it and ... what no save? oh i have to go create a profile first? **bleep**. or if like i said you want several similar profiles for the same program you may need to re-create many macros or do the export import trick and rename. - issue addressed (kinda) in 3.03 with "copy from" option in create new profile box
- the above will require even more the need to enable or disable profiles assigned to the same program. Already there is an option for profile cycling for having multiple profiles. and i have described already wanting to alter original profiles. there needs to be a way to disable profiles you want but dont want to use.
- there is currently an option under Edit>All G-Keys.> use Default. This sets all keys in all 3 sets to default. can we have this option for only the current set not all 3?
- in the pop-up menu for each key - there is a doubling of "Macro Manager" and "Assign Macro> Create New Macro" both selections lead same place. It is also available through edit menu. too many items in menus confuse people. Only one in the edit menu and one in the "assign macro> create new" menu is necessary.
- in same menu change "disable" to "unassign" use the same wording through the program to keep it simple
- in same menu again, merge "assign function" and "assign shortcut" - they are the same thing (your "functions" are pre- made shortcuts)
- need label on game-settings-to-go and more info on it
- rename "manage profiles" - confusion with macro manager (too many managers)
- rename "save profiles" to "update profiles" or "update now" or "save to device"
- would be nice to be able to switch between: the Labels we see now, and the keypresses they represent. Or better yet see both at sametime. Example if i assign a macro called forward and it was the G4 key acting as the W on my keyboard. in the user interface it will show G4 labeled as Forward. It would be nice to toggle, and see it is W - allong with all the other keys at once. Right now you have to look through the macro manager to see what label is what key and the profiler screen to see what Gkey is what label.
- fix the colour chooser - if trying to go any form of white in custom results in a purplish colour. I'm sure your aware.
- would be nice for the keys to highlight on the screen when pressed.
- Options
- presistant Memory Bank option - M1 M2 or M3 stays on durring any profile. *** M3 will be popular for this*** Great for windows fucntions (ALT-Tab, windows button), shortcuts, strings of text, and scripts. non-game or program specific things but may be needed at any time.
- a great idea i found on your forum. really small only 2 quick posts (shorter than this lol). go here http://forums.logitech.com/logitech/board/message?
board.id=gserieskeyboards&message.id=2054&query.id ...
This or an expansion on ideas like this this would be great for many people and may expand your target market.
- More info on game-settings-to-go would be nice. As far as i have been able to find my pad will save the profiles on it but
i still need to install the software on all other pc's. Right? no info is my point. Game-to-go my but!!
- for travel reasons is it possible to make a profile to work without any software installed? even if the profile contained key press assignments only? something like the DEFAULT profle. It is nothing fancy just 1/2 a keyboard layout. Can you make that BE DEFAULT if no software on the pc is found? **probaly requires firmware update** modified standard HID keyboard driver could probably do this too, for a smaller bare-minimum package.
- thumbpad - there has been talk of rightfully enabling the analogue proporties of the thumbpad. It would be smartest to make it switchable analogue or digital (current) mode. Many users that asked for this may find it wont work as they intended, game developers need to enable support for analouge sticks. although some games can be modified to work. Example is Oblivion before the patch, 360 controlers for windows thumb stick wouldnt work and couldnt be assigned. there was a work-around to enable support for this similar methods may be required to have full analogue support in games. Dont get me wrong i want this option too but i want it an OPTION!- fixed in 3.03
- with the above analogue fucntions in mind, mouse control support would be fun for that too!!! already has the 3 buttons there.
- in setting macro mouse function there is a duplication of mouse wheel click and middle button click
- also in windows there are 5 available mouse buttons ( left middle right {button 1 2 3) and forward and backward {button 4 and 5} your program only alows the use of the first 4.
- Screen Saver does not load back up if LCD software is shut off after loading.
- in Media Display LCD application - the 4 buttons under the display could be used as play/pause , stop next and previous buttons. similar fuction to whats used in RSS reader. Seems weird that this wasnt already thought of. If it was, its not working for me in vista 64 with windows media player.
Thank you for your time

i really wish this would be available in the future. or this will be the last time i'll be using any logitech products.
tq

its weird as heck that you posted about this..... i was just in the shower thinking about this.
and i was thinking Maybe a MINI-Driver. or a mini-driver with a tweaker program to edit the keys in the driver file before installing the driver.
a standard mini driver could include most every key on a keyboard. M1 could be the left section of the keyboard like the one ill post at the bottom (without the Ventrilo). M2 could be the right section of the keyboard and M3 could get the [ ]\ ;' ./, Enter F1-F12.

i agree but it might not work. i recently tried a macro in default profile that is WINDOWS KEY + 3 (.5)delay ENTER ENTER. to launch the 3rd qucik lauch button beside the Start menu, THEN press ENTER twice. this macro ONLY opened the program but the 2 enters got dropped when a the window opened, even though there is no profile for the new window. pressing the macro button again will try and fail (with this program at least) to launch a new window and then WILL press the enters in the already open window. so for this macro to work (and i use the term loosely) I have to press it twice.
what i and you want MIGHT be possible through script by launching a shortcut in script.
BUT the script might be dropped as well the new window opens, even if there is no profile for that window.
Unless LOGITECH changes the profiler to NOT stop macros and scripts from running in the default profile UNLESS there is a created pofile change.

to fix your starcraft problem turn on "Lock profile while game is running" in that profile's properties box. i get that problem with MSN or turning on my bluetooth headset.
i agree about the mouse thing. as stated above in the big list they have still forgotten to include "mouse button 5". but it can be done through scripting. i dont think the wheel left and right can though......
Logitech-- repeat macro "toggle" and "while pressed" is still broken too!!!!
