I have recently wiped and reloaded my computer. Now for some reason whether I have the keyboard software installed or not. If I move the volume dial at all it causes windows to hang and I have to reboot to get out of it. I am not sure what started this all as it worked fine before the reload and no hardware has changed. I have tried reloading windows again and only have the keyboard software installed and it still seems to do it.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

i have the same problem, i have wiped xp 3 times now and then i installed vista and i didnt have the problem anymore so it must be something to do with a update with sp3. also im using a g9 mouse and that stops working the mouse moves but it wont let me click anything but i have the newer g15 (one with the orange lights)

Actually, I did figure this one out.
It ended up being a virus. It showed itself in the Task Manager as scvhost.exe (Note: not svchost.exe) Also it wasn't run by "SYSTEM" it was created by your own account.
Google scvhost and you will get some hits on it.
Goodluck.
