G19 - Hang on post screen

Ok, well I got a G19 for my birthday last week thanks to my dear lady friend! A nifty upgrade from the G15 I had previously. I have some rather bewildering issues, however. Let me explain as briefly as possible:

I booted up with the G15 wired up. I downloaded the most up-to-date G19 software (happens to be the same software and drivers as the G15), version 3.0.2 I believe. I removed the G15 and plugged in the G19. All good, everything worked fine. Closed down for the night later on.

Booting the next day, however, the PC hangs on the Post Screen (the splash screen with the Motherboard logo and slogan on, with the written keyboard prompts such as Del for Setup, Tab to hide the splash, F2 for etc etc). It wouldn’t go past this, and ofc since the keyboard is USB you cannot use these prompts. So I rebooted. Same issue. Rinsed and repeated.

Thinking the only thing I had changed was the Keyboard, I unplugged it and rebooted. PC booted successfully. From then on, the PC would hang at Post with the Keyboard in and boot successfully with the keyboard removed.

Also tried this on my girlfriends identical pc and its the same issue. Can anyone help?

Cheers

Re: G19 - Hang on post screen

It's a shame a $200 keyboard causes this problem, and a shame no support seems to be available for it. :robotmad:

It will be returned to the store as faulty and not replaced by another of this brand.

Thanks.

Re: G19 - Hang on post screen

You should try disabling USB Legacy Support in the BIOS of your motherboard. I don't know if the name is the same for every mobo but I had a simular issue with my external HDD's on my Gigabyte P35-DS3R. (I know old and crappy :smileytongue:) Since the g19 has an onboard memory it could be thinking that your keyboard is a harddrive or something.

Goodluck ;-)

Hello MisterLeroy, and congratulations on your score of a G19 for a B-day gift!

Just so you know this issue has been raised Here before.

If you could reply with your system specs, motherboard brand and model is needed.

For a temporary fix you should try disabling USB Legacy Support in the BIOS of your motherboard.- like Vortexbe said, or you could try changing your USB buss speed setting from 'Hi-Speed' to 'Full Speed' this worked for my ASUS Rampage Extreme motherboard until ASUS issued a new BIOS that fixed this issue.

This issue does not seem to be the keyboards fault but rather the motherboards BIOS' fault, see the linked thread for some more info.

I hope this helps you.

Re: G19 - Hang on post screen

Ah another thread about it! I'd searched around but i guess I used the wrong keywords :smileyhappy:

Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 @ 2.33GHz
Asus P5QL Pro
ATI Radeon HD 4800
4GB OCZ Ram
2x 500GB (1TB) SATA2 Samsung HDDs

That's my rig. I can see Asus boards are the problem board with this. hopefully updating the bios will fix this long term :smileyhappy:

OK, well the BIOS update didn't help at all. :smileysad: (updated to 12 Feb 09 v.1001 release, most current on the Asus site for this board that i could find)

Disabling Legacy USB didn't help either :smileysad:

But cranking USB speed up to 12mb did help. What are the drawbacks to doing this? seems my other USB devices still operate ok.

Hehe, don't worry about the other thread, at least you tried to search for it.

ASUS boards do 'seem' to be the main culprits but other brands are also affected, XFX, MSI etc.

Also nice rig, about the same as my wife's :smileyhappy:.

Shame this didn't work for you now, but it does look like ASUS are issuing new Bios's to other boards so maybe your P5QL Pro will get a fix soon.

But this did. I myself experienced no adverse affects from this fix, and as you can see in my sig. I have allot of G Series gear as well as other hi-end USB products, none of which had any problems with 12MB USB speeds.

Re: G19 - Hang on post screen

[ Edited ]

I just recently moved my PC and after about 5 minutes messing around with this problem, I found a solution that worked for me. All I had to do is plug it into the USB port that I had it plugged into when I installed the drivers / software for the keyboard. Windows creates registry entries independently for each USB port, so even though you may have already installed the drivers and software, Windows might not allow your computer to recognize that the keyboard, when plugged into a different USB port, needs that driver / software. So, I would try the original USB port used, or completely uninstall the software and drivers (back up your profiles and whatnot of course) and reinstall with the keyboard plugged into the USB port you plan to use it on from this point forward.

Not really the keyboard or the software's fault, all USB devices suffer this fault, every time you switch the USB port you use with a device, Windows will install the same driver again and create a new registry entry. This is actually the reason that Windows slows down over time and complete reinstallations of your OS is recommended every 12-18 months depending on use.
