Re: G19 LCD keeps rebooting / flashing randomly

Just got this exact problem with the keyboard rebooting, was stupid really. A/C adaptor came out of the power strip. Also have seen thread where A/C adaptor went bad, which led me to check it. I pulled it out, put it back in, keyboard booted right up.

Hope this helps someone.

Re: G19 LCD keeps rebooting / flashing randomly

Dear everyone.

I will try and keep this message short, as doing the opposite will temp me to insult a specific company that is not to be named.

I have a g19 for more than a year now and about 4 months ago it was affected by re renown "LCD flashing" problem. I tried all the "normal" things (replug, new drivers, new BIOS, new AC adaptor and the like), but the problem refused to go away.

Yesterday I decided to give it a "folklore medicine" aproach by doing various stupid things, including moving the  AC / USB cabbles around for quite some time. While the problem persisted,  the tempo of the screen flashing changed with every move, which indicated a mechanical problem, so I picked up my trusty toolcase and started working.

I unpluged and unscrewed my keyboard. I messed around with the cables a bit (way to technical to get into specifics here), and voila, the keyboard is working like a charm. The very same day, I "fixed" two more G19's belonging to friends that encountered  the same problem.

I want to believe that the problem only affects batch of products and it has nothing to do with the quality of materials used by Logitech. I would trust that a full reimbursement for every G19 out there is out of the question, so there is virtually nothing you can do as a consumer. Consider it bad luck, but that is what you get for choosing a state of the art keyboard, that attempts to do something never done before. Just buy a new keybord. Shall I suggest the G110?

TL;DR:

-There is no easy solution.

-The problem is a mechanical one, and it's located in the keyboard's wirings  It has nothing to do with any software or hardware you might have (the x58/790i problem is different ofcourse).

-I DO NOT recomend that you open up your keyboard as a) you might damage something and b) void the warranty.

-Give Logitech another go. After that, vote with your wallet.

Take care.

Re: G19 LCD keeps rebooting / flashing randomly

[ Edited ]

Sigh....I came here hoping for a solution. I am part of a family of  computer users. We have at least 10 logitech products in our home including the higher end stuff. I was even looking at getting some of their other products as well (the remotes look sweet) but this whole thing has completely soured me to their way of conducting business and as someone said "I will be voting with my wallet."

I am tired of the completely random reboots, the keys getting stuck in games where I can do nothing or ony run forward requiring a hard reset. I have tried everything here but opening the keyboard. At this point I am just going to throw it away and purchase something from another company that will continue to have my business for years to come.

Post reviews, rate on newegg or whereever you purchased your product, speak out. Don't let them get away with this. Consumers have the power in the end. We know the keyboards are faulty, we know it isn't something "we" are doing, we shouldn't stand for this. Telling people to reboot to fix it or log out/in is just ridiculous. That isn't a fix that is a band aid on a gunshot. There is a built in flaw in this product and Logitech needs to fess up and deal with it. In this economy they can't afford to snub their once faithful consumers.

I hope my response does not get deleted. I know it is kind of harsh but it is all the truth.

Re: G19 LCD keeps rebooting / flashing randomly

Hi all,

I've had the same problem a couple of times. The first time (about a year ago) I tried everything to fix the issue but nothing would work. When I contacted customer support about the issue they told me it was not a problem they could solve or fell within warranty. I tried more things and eventually tried the nice old bang it till it works method. To my suprise... it worked again.

A couple of days ago it all happened again. This time I didn't bother to go to customer support but I openend the keyboard to see wether it was a hardware problem. To my suprise it worked again when I plugged the power and usb in again while the keyboard was openend. I put it back together again and it kept working fine.

I don't know what happenend but seeing that it is working again I think it is a hardware problem rather that software. I will post in  couple of days again to let you guys know whether it is still working or not.

I hope Logitech will take action about this but a am affraid this is a ill hope.

Good luck unscrewing the keyboard.

grtz

Re: G19 LCD keeps rebooting / flashing randomly

To everyone having this problem,

It's definitely a hardware problem.  Long ago, I used to fix it by messing around with the wire that goes into the keyboard.  I'd sort of twist and bend it a certain way and hold it there until the LCD stopped flashing.  Pressing down on the plastic just around the area above the button that controls the lights worked well for me too.  I've done this long ago ... and never had it flash in over a year now.

Re: G19 LCD keeps rebooting / flashing randomly

SOLUTION

So happening to me too... Hi :smileyvery-happy:   with the G19... had it for a year now... hello :smileyhappy:

Thanks to VinPetrol

for your input and informing that it was a Mechanical issue (ie wiring) as opposed to bios/computer hardware settings. Because of this, I took your advice NOT to open up the keyboard and check the wiring.

You mentioned Mechanical, did all the normal first. Unplugged usb plugged back in, unplugged AC adapter, plugged back in.

Didnt work, so I went to the forums

Then I saw u mentioned Mechanical and cable loose... tried jiggling the usb/AC cable near the screen, didnt work.

My fix:

Lifted the keyboard around 20CM (roughly 8 inches for you yanks) into the air and kinda dropped it (not smashed it) dropped it while supporting it with my hands.

THIS FIXED the issue!

The logitech screen held for about 5 seconds, and I thought.... oh no! - then it went to my default profile..

So give that a go first (remember you are not trying to break your awesome/expensive piece of hardware) be gentle/yet firm. And then go game :smileytongue:

My poor gf found it today and told me about it while I was at work... I was almost going to blame her..

Re: G19 LCD keeps rebooting / flashing randomly

It is definitely a wiring issue!!!! While the keyboard is plugged in, twist the power cord around where it goes into the keyboard and bang around the plastic area in that area with your thumb. It works like a charm.

Quote from alex_da_gr8est : Lifted the keyboard around 20CM (roughly 8 inches for you yanks) into the air and kinda dropped it (not smashed it) dropped it while supporting it with my hands.

What the hell, that actually worked. My problem was that LCD & Backlighting simply turned off, my G700 still worked (it's plugged in the G19) and typing also still worked.

Thanks for this "solution".
