G19 + LGPS 3.02 + Vista64 + Sideshow Device not found

Hey all,

Just got my new G19 - works like a dream :smileyhappy:  I'm especially pleased that it *just* fits into the space for my sliding keyboard tray - I was expecting to have to give up my desk space...

However, I can't seem to get the Windows Sideshow functionality working...  I've seen a number of people say they use it in the LGPS 3.02 thread, but no details... so presumably it's working fine for them.  However, they may not be on x64, or may have taken for granted something that I've missed...

Things I've tried...

* Checked for an applet in LCD Manager - Nope

* Checked that the device appears under Sideshow Devices in Device Manager: Yes (x2 - Monochrome & Colour) - however, both show as "Unknown Device", despite being uninstalled and re-installed a couple of times...

* Checked that the correct device was Enabled in Device Manager... apparantly not... enabled it, no luck

* Explicitly disabled it, enabled it again -bit of a surge of HDD activity, which had me hopeful, but still no luck

* Tested my other Sideshow device... yes, that's working fine...

So, my guess is tha it is either

1) a driver installation problem on Vista x64, which is why the two sideshow devices display as "Unknown Device" despite all other indications being good

2) a conflict between the Sideshow driver for WM6 and the Sideshow driver for the G19

Anyone else got this working under either of those scenarios?

Thanks,

Nick

Re: G19 + LGPS 3.02 + Vista64 + Sideshow Device not found

Okay, a bit more investigating... I've found the "SetupAPI.dev.log" file, which does show an error when installing the SideShow device driver - I've put the appropriate section below (sorry for the length).

Can anyone understand this?  My basic "read & interpret" skills suggest a problem with a service - perhaps the service for this device is already installed? I've now bitten the bullet and uninstalled the drivers for my WM6 Sideshow device, but this hasn't helped...

Thanks,

Nick

Re: G19 + LGPS 3.02 + Vista64 + Sideshow Device not found

Okay, I solved this in the end :-)

It turns out, that the new version of F-Secure Anti-virus I have been beta testing was conflicting with driver installs... I only found out because after upgrading to Vista SP2, none of my IDE devices were working, and trying to reinstall their drivers gave me the same error!

Once I knew it wasn't a "Sideshow" specific error, I remembered the ancient wisdom of "Try disabling your virus scanner" - I've never, ever had to do this befor, so this came as quite a shock to me!

So, everything's working now - and I now know to follow the ancient wisdom at all times!
