Hi!
Earlier today, I noticed that my G13's LCD was displaying in the wrong color, and when I tried to fix it, it would not change colors at all, no matter what I did in the LCD controller or the G13 Profiler programs on the computer. Also the button to turn the LCD on/off no longer worked.
I closed both programs and re-opened them, no change. Then I tried reinstalling them, no change. Then I unplugged the G13 from the USB port it was using and plugged it back in... change! The screen was still the wrong color, and and every single button in every single profile was now empty. So I tried re-installing the latest version of the program, and now the LCD is completely blank. It lights up when plugged in, but nothing displays, and none of the buttons do anything. If I try to re-install the Profiler program (both the latest update and the 3.3 version that comes on the install cd), the install stops at "Please plug in your G-series device". Apparently it is no longer being deteced, though it is still drawing power, so theoretically this is some sort of correctible software malfunction.
Tried rebooting my computer, still no detection. Tried moving it to a different USB port, still no detection. Verified the USB ports themselves still work. What is my next step?

Update: The LCD even stays on when the computer is shut off, which it definitely did not do before.
I am using Windows 7 Ultimate x64, if that is relevant.

Update 2: I turned on my computer this morning and plugged the G13 back in (after leaving it unplugged all night), and it is completely back to normal now, and even has restored all the profiles it erased yesterday. Bizarre, right? Anyway, problem solved, I guess.

at least this time you know the fix. I think some of your USB ports are configured to stay on even when your computer is off. if you have a BIOS option to allow you to power on your computer using the keyboard or mouse, you might want to turn that off and see if it helps.

As before, leaving it unplugged overnight seems to have completely fixed the problem, but I still don't understand why. Is there anything I can do to ensure that this doesn't happen again, or is there no way to stop this G13 from scrambling itself for one day every couple of months?

I'm not certain the overnight delay is needed. it may be sufficient to unplug the G13 from the computer, reboot the computer, then plug the G13 back in again.
I have 2 G13's and neither of them has ever done this. it might be more related to your USB ports than to the G13 itself.

Oh I tried that about five times, along with uninstalling and reinstalling both the latest and legacy versions of the controller software, plugging it in to different ports, plugging other things into the ports, and so on and so on. It's definitely something about the controller itself, as everything else works fine.
I'm sure it's quite a rare problem. If it werent, then googling it would have turned up a solution ![]()
