LGS is buggy - lots of crashing

[ Edited ]

So I have been using LGS for a while now with my G19, first on my socket 775-based q6600 system and now on my socket 1150-based haswell system. On both systems LGS has been very unstable, on Windows 7 and 8, especially with enhanced graphics on. With enhanced graphics, I will get periodic display driver failure/recoveries every few hours. Also, the LCD deides to go black and sometimes I have to restart/kill and relaunch LGS to get LCD functionality back. At first I thought it was a power saving feature, but then I noticed that the backlight was still on. The G-Keys will still work when the keyboard has a blacked out LCD like I said, and I can change the backlight color. Sometimes, the display isn't blacked out, it's frozen on the last screen I was using. This sometimes happens when resuming from sleep.

I can't tell you the number of times LGS has become unresponsive and I have had to kill it from task manager. That's the most annoying kind of crash - when you have to manually intervene and kill the frozen program (If I try to exit from the notification area, I get no right click menu and nothing happens when I double click so I assume it is unresponsive, that and the keyboard is acting up).

So is there something I can do to make it run better, or something you guys would find useful in troubleshooting these bugs?

edit:

Having turned enhanced graphics off, it seems the nvidia driver continues to crash. However, I have had a separate error specific to LGS that mentioned opengl in the past.

Re: LGS is buggy - lots of crashing

Hi osterac,

I believe that the G19 Gaming Keyboard eats a discrete amount of system resource and USB bandwidth, but I think this might not be the cause why LGS freezes on your desktop. The issue is probably software related. You might be interested to view and apply the workaround discussed by one of our users in the thread provided below:

How to disable OpenGL in 8.00

Try it and see how it goes. I hope this suggestion helps. :smileywink:

The setting "enable enhaced graphics" does the same thing as the edit the guide you linked to does.

Well I said crash, but it really is a freeze because I have to use task manager to end it.

Do you have any suggestions?

Re: LGS is buggy - lots of crashing

Hi osterac,

It might be also possible that the settings.json file got corrupted. Some users noted that this happens when the file gets too loaded. Try to check if the workaround below will correct the issue:

1.   Close Logitech Gaming Software in the System Tray or in Task Manager (Lcore.exe).
2.   Browse C:\Users\%USER%\AppData\Local\Logitech\Logitech Gaming Software\
3.   Delete the file "settings.json
4.   Restart the computer. This will eventually restart LGS as a part of the standard start-up list.
5.   Observe LGS if it will still freeze.

Try it and see how it goes. :smileywink:

Re: LGS is buggy - lots of crashing

After a few days of testing your solution, it seems the problem still exists: the screen will sometimes go black when resuming from from sleep, and not respond to the buttons on the keyboard itself. However, I had found that if I go into LGS>Applets and disable/re-enable an applet, the screen comes back up. Unfortunately, it is still unresponsive to button presses. It hasn't outright frozen yet, but I thought I'd post about this problem.

Re: LGS is buggy - lots of crashing

I've had a "break in the case" so to speak. Recently I've been hearing the usb disconnect noise periodically. I fired up USBDeview and found which device was disconnecting:

0000.0014.0000.003.002.000.000.000.000	Logitech G19 LCD	Vendor Specific	Yes	Yes	No	No 6/21/2013 5:03:19 PM	6/21/2013 4:31:41 PM	046d	c229	0.23	ff	00	00 LGPBTDD	@oem21.inf,%LGPBTDD.SvcDesc%;LGPBTDD.sys Display Driver	LGPBTDD.sys Logitech	0 mA	2.00	Logitech G19 LCD	3.3.107.0	USB\VID_046D&PID_C229&MI_00\7&737b058&0&0000

I hope this doesn't mean my LCD is going out. 'S what I get for buying a refurbished board, I guess.

Re: LGS is buggy - lots of crashing

So what should I do aboud this? I have an extended warranty through Newegg, but that will only get me a $99 credit to buy something else. My 90 day warranty through logitech is expired. If it does need repair, how much would it cost to send it to logitech? Given that this is a refurbished board, and they would probably just send me another refurb, not sure how enthusiastic I am about that.

I briefly considered buying a g19s, but after looking at it, it appears to be a g19 with new paint and $30 added to the price tag. Great.

Re: LGS is buggy - lots of crashing

New issue.

The "period" and "m" keys stopped working. Using shift+m I could get a capital m. After uninstalling the logitech drivers from device manager and rebooting, the keys were working again. I then reinstalled LGS.
