G-Series Gaming Keyboards

A mechanical, backlit keyboard with display AND GOOD SOFTWARE FOR CHRISTS SAKE would be pretty nice.

Currently I'm thinking about replacing my G15 v2 with either a Razer Black Widow Ultimate (maybe the Stealth edition if released in Europe) or a Qpad MK-80.

Aaaand... Corsa*r just anounced a couple of mechanical keyboards with Cherry MX reds, backlight and programable keys... and priced around $100.

Logitech, your turn. You can do it, make us proud!

MECHANICAL

Yes please.  I'm finally tired of waiting for a decent mechanical keyboard that doesn't look like it belongs at the office.

Something with extended media functionality, gaming macros, windows lock and good lighting.

MACRO KEYS

I NEED the macro keys.  Ironically, it's not even primarily for gaming.

I do modelling and CADwork for a living.  Being able to program in macros on my G15 (gen1) makes it simply amazing.

The double rows means I can create "toggle" switches turning on and off layers and longer more complicated commands.  It simply makes work less stressful.  Let's me focus on the drawing and design instead of having to babysit the interface.

LCD

For me, the LCD thing isn't much of an issue.  I've alway liked monitoring my CPU, ram and other stats as I'm gaming. 

I'll miss it for sure, but it definitely won't kill me not to have it.  However, if the option was there, I would choose a screen.

I think the best compromise would be to do a an add-on module.  Using the original G15 as an example.  Center, Left and Right (usb ports) would be perfect locations.

By making it a true premium prodcuct, those who want it can get something decent, and you don't have to compromise with a mediocre model.  And as your comsumers start hacking it for even crazier functions, word will spread and more might end up buying it down the line.

I always found it silly to have both the original G15 and G11.  It was practically screaming for this.

BACKLIT

Making infinite color variablility like the m17x would allow you get buyers who are refusing the keyboard because of the color.

I want it BRIGHT, not everybody wants it ultra-bright, but that's why it should be totally variable so we people can either dim it or turn it off completely.

Simply put, Infinitely backlit would be amazing and would let the user match the keyboard to the surroundings (decor and the tower color).

Some people like me are just sick of a wimpy blue backlit keyboard.

MEDIA CONTROL

I think the original G15 still has the best idea, for media control.  A centralized spot to control volume with a CIRCULAR motion, as well as all the media buttons.

I would KILL to have a giant stainless knob built into to keyboard like this one.

WRIST REST

I'm sure I'm not the only one who's noticed this, but logitech has always had some pretty bad wrist rests.  They are cheap, thin and look like they are straight out of a dollar store.  Quite often, the are held on by the tiny little plastic tabs that snap right off.  Please don't make this an afterthought.  If I'm paying $100-150 for a keyboard, I want something that is removable, clips on securely and is built solid.

here's what i'd want in mechnical keyboards by logitech

Standard edition for entry level typing or gaming

Switches - Cherry Brown, quiter.

LED backlight - Red and Blue options
Media controls like the g110 [volume wheel, mute]

THATS IT.  Simple and to the point.

Now the premium one [for gamers] gets [in addition to the above]

Macro buttons

USB ports

Headphone, Mic jacks

More features for those who need it

Ultra Rich edition [for professional gamers] has [in addition to the above]

LCD Panel

Full color LED [Yellow, Green, White added]

Spoil yourself silly with LCD that shows up to date information bundled with the software [Temps, FPS, APM, etc]

A sub $100, $120, and $199 edition for all.

Yeah, Culverin if they released a keyboard with all those features I would happily pay $150. If it had backlighting like that Alienware I would pay $200-$250. I love programming scripts to do funky lighting on my current logitech keyboard, if I had that much control I would be ecstatic.

My prefered requirements for a mechanical gaming keyboard

Features that I really want on my board:

* Wrist rest - Full size + 2-3 inch depth and solid connection to the board (I would prefer it integrated for this reason but because some people probably detach them I will settle for detachable)

* Media Keys - The standard playback controls + preferably a volume dial (I still currently use a Logitech Internet Navigator special edition (bought in 2004)  which has an excellent central circular, dome volume dial)

* Cherry MX Red Switches (Lowest resistance linear switch, it has no tactile feedback and no audible click)

Features that I would like to have but I could get by without:

+ Solid adjustable tilt (The feet on Logitech keyboards are prone to breaking off)

+ Macro Keys (but not too many, preferably about 12)

+ A powered USB port- This will require two USB cables to the board but computers have paired ports normally anyway.

+ Quiet key action (Without sacrificing any responsiveness and without increasing resistance)

+ Low friction key coating (preferably that will last)

Features I do not want or would not use:

- LCD Screen

- Back lit keys (I do not need this but given the number of people that want this I am willing to pay for it)

- Wireless

- Windows key lock (But I would like to keep the Windows key)

- Any audio connection or other audio devices

- Extra gimmicks

I can beive that they havnet made one yet, but this is some thinks i want

Cherry MX Red:   Just not blu tomtuch noise  ALL buttons 
LED backlit: Strong leds in all colors, even the posibility to have difrent colures on difrent areas
Material: Good quality is a most maybe even aluminum or some metal "see corsair vengeance k*0 and razor blackwidow"
Media: Media keys,  start/pause Stop  Rewind/Forward Mute/unmute sound changer whell "G19"
LCD: Not that importan, but it would be great if it lookt good "not plastic ugly looking thing" and had many programs whit it
USB: two or more usb 3 ports
Macro: at least 12 G buttoms
Wire: a nice small sleeve'd kabel

And for love of god, be able to use usb only and not a power conector

Logitech doesn't pre-announce new products here (or new driver releases, or fixes for known bugs).  in general, we find out about new stuff at the same time as everyone else.
