My likes, dislikes and suggestions for LGS v8

Thought I'd make a fuss in my own thread, as nothing has changed in nearly a month and now thinking I should just revert back to the previous version of LGS (v7) as the current version (v8) is making daily usage very annoying.

Even though this will probably go unnoticed by Logitech or anyone that can make a real difference, I'll still keep trying, because after all, this is an official Logitech forum… and I've been a Logitech customer since my much loved Amiga days :manvery-happy: (list version three)

LGS 8.00.127 (x64) on a G13 and G110

:manvery-happy: Improvements I like:

  • New interface is great and a little more intuitive
  • Can even select your own icons (ico, images, etc) for each assigned application
  • The Command Editor has been hugely improved
  • The ability to name the buttons now
  • Gaming panel and Display configuration is now all-in-one
  • You can now fairly accurately set the key colours in the G13 panel
  • The ability to Drag'n'Drop Commands makes changing anything very fast and easy
  • G13 Mouse Emulation cursor speed works really well now
  • The ability to print any of your memory sets.  It's basic, but works!
  • G keys show the exact name given in the command
  • Hovering over G Keys will show the full command name if it's longer than it can show
  • Applets built for v7 work on v8 (Such as LCDSirReal, MPC and the crappy Duke Nukem Forever that has LGS support)

:mansad: What I don't like:

  • After running it for a little while the whole system drags/slows down a little, but if I quit LGS, the system runs fine again
  • It doesn't 'Auto cycle' through current active Applets (e.g. switches 'Applets' every 2 seconds) as you could do before
  • Setting the colour to white (255, 255, 255) gives you a bright violet colour and not actually white [ Product or software fault? ]
  • You can't use the accurate colour setting on a G110, only a pointer palette window that isn't accurate
  • Colour synchronizing between 'G' products when you hit a Memory button does work any more

:manmad: What strongly requires immediate attention:

  • Sort out the system drag/slow down issue that happens after a short time... it's awful!!! [ Re-Confirmed ]

:manwink: My suggestions:

  • Possibly the ability to hotkey a pop-up of LGS within a game to show a basic view of the key layout
  • Mouse/Joystick sensitivity scroll bar isn't that accurate and could use a number/percentage indication)
  • 'Export all' as separate files to a destination folder, make backing-up and sharing 'LGS Profiles' with everyone easier
  • The ability to 'Auto-off' the backlight on all products after a time of inactivity (anything from 1 minute to 12 hours)
  • The ability to 'Auto-on' the backlight when a key is pressed during a set time period of the day

:manmad: Product design faults:

  • The 'backlight on/off key' on the G110 and G13 keyboard should be 'on' at all times so you can find it at any time easily
  • The Joystick on the G13 always feels it's slightly off centered and can't be corrected (physically or in software either
  • Setting the colour to white (255, 255, 255) gives you a bright violet colour and not actually white [ Product or software fault? ]
  • The volume scroll on the G110 isn't sensitive enough and can't be altered either, making it very slow at changing the volume?

Id like to see the return of the "Allow applets to force themselves to the foreground' back.

This seems to be enabled by default, and id like to disable it. Its so irritating. Unless im missing it somewhere.

Re: My likes, dislikes and suggestions for LGS v8

Please no in-game pop-up options unless it is something that can be completely disabled.  In-game screens from other software cause an interruption of the DirectX stream.  For those of us using 3D monitors, it completely hoses the 3D and may not allow the driver to function at all.  A better solution would be to put a Color LCD applet for the G19 in the driver to allow for customization of the software.  But if the software forces an in-game pop up there are many that will simply be unable to use the software any more because it will cripple other other hardware.

Re: My likes, dislikes and suggestions for LGS v8

To be honest Synther33, I doubt anything I've said and suggested will ever change as it's been well over a month and Logitech have done nothing!  If they were to do something like I've suggest (as like it does within Vavle's Steam, which seems OK so far) I'm sure it would possible to both disable it and just ignore the feature, so it doesn't cause any problems. :manhappy:

I have a feeling that by this time next year 3D gaming using glasses will be gone and glasses free, even with the possible option to place an optic panel on top of existing screens and also most drivers will be both better for 3D and using the Kepler advancements :mantongue:

Have you check out the latest version of LGS?  They have a new update of v8.

From what I've seen and read about the 3D tech, don't expect that.  From what I've read, those developing the tech do not forsee good glassless 3D at a reasonable price for 10 years.  The current glassless 3D tech doesn't give nearly good enough results and as someone who 3D games, I'm not sure the glassless 3D tech will be good for gaming due to their limitations.
