G400 - the only REAL competitor to DeathAdder and the other hugely popular gaming mice?

[ Edited ]

Is it true ?

  • How do you think G400 performs at FPS, especially CS 1.6 ?
  • Does it have any kind of acceleration at all?(negative. positive)
  • Does it skip pixels / jitter?
  • Does it have prediction/angle snapping?
  • Are all these weaknesses crucial for CS 1.6 (FPS games) and if they are, how crucial :

    Image processing: 5.8 megapixels/second compared to G9x's 12megapixels/second
    Max. acceleration: 25G* compared to G9x's 30G
    Max. speed: 70–140* inches/second compared to G9x's 165 inches (4.19 m)/second

  • Is its tracking great?
  • Is its responsiveness great?
  • Is it true that this mouse in particular and all optical mice are better than laser mice for FPS?

I want some professional players' opinions, I'll honestly appreciate them all :smileyhappy:

P.S. At first I was thinking of buying a G9x, but after a in-detail research i've done myself, I was convinced that optical mice are better (still) than laser mice.. So maybe i'm wrong, please help guys :smileyhappy:

Can you bring some arguments on optical better than laser? Sound a little bit silly, but maybe I'm wrong

Re: G400 - the only REAL competitor to DeathAdder and the other hugely popular gaming mice?

The arguments between laser and optical depend on a variety of factors: preferred tracking surface, tracking resolution, and comfort with the different sensor's abilities and oddities. Optical sensors are extremely accurate at certain key DPIs and track very well on certain cloth and optically oriented surfaces. They can also tolerate a little bit more dirt on the sensor than lasers. Lasers track better on surfaces with really fine grain to the texture and scale DPIs a little better, but their movement acceleration curves aren't as linear as optical. Low sensitivity players at 400 DPI would really like the feel of the G400 mouse over, say, the G9x, but players who use 800-1600DPI and prefer smooth tracking surfaces would be better served with a laser IMO.

After using both for long periods of time, I've found I tend to prefer laser tracking on a laser oriented mousepad. I play at a medium sensitivity and I usually default to 800 DPI (It's a sweet spot for most gaming optical mice and with lasers, it doesn't matter as much). FYI setting your mouse DPI way up and in game sensitivity way down doesn't do you any favors: You should find the DPI that gives you the smoothest default feel, and use the in game settings to slightly tweak it. It also allows you to adjust the mouse speed without touching Windows' bizarre mouse speed algorithm.

the new g400, without prediction, is a great mouse.

it is my mouse of the year for sure, maybe of the decade!

I m playing fast FPS since 13 years now and i tested a lot of mice ( mx500, mx510, mx518, g5, g9, copperhead, diamondback, deathadder, imperator)  and especially all of those new laser mice, all those who use the avago sensor which has some acceleration and just feels "wrong" ( g9x, g500, xai, kone+, kudos).

the g400 is the best mouse in every single point in my opinion:

best shape, best weight, great sensor ( no accel, no prediction), good sensor placement, great built quality.

there is simply no weakness, even the price is great!

but watch out, there are 2 different versions of the g400 out there!

only the newer ones are without prediction!

read here !

"Low sensitivity players at 400 DPI would really like the feel of the G400 mouse over, say, the G9x.."

I only use 400 DPI for CS 1.6, 6/11 windows sens, have been playing with these settings since i first started playing the game. Im completely used to it.

So in this case, optical mice in general, and G400 in particular is the best? :smileyhappy:

@Fozzel, thanks man, appreciate your opinion.

Yes, I know that G400 v2, is the better one, (with no acceleration ??? and) with no prediction :smileyhappy:

It's really important to me that sensor is placed on the right place. unlike G500, where the sensor is put way higher.

Re: G400 - the only REAL competitor to DeathAdder and the other hugely popular gaming mice?

so true, the sensor placement of the g500 was fail, and the mouse itself was too heavy as well.

for me the sensor has to be placed in a line between the grabbing fingers, which is the case for me with the g400.

talking about "acceleration" and "prediction", afaik every mouse has a slight amount of prediction and acceleration,

so there is no "perfect" mouse out there, but the g400 gets close =)

btw, i m using some mid/low sense ( 35cm/360° ) and i cant simply feel any accel.
