G5 (2nd gen, blue, 2 sidebutton) Laser died after a month of use

Hi guys,

 

I've been an avid fan of Logitech for years. My first logitech was the MX518 which lasted me a few years, and then I got the first gen G5 which lasted me four years until the right click broke. Of course, I stuck w/ Logitech and got the second gen G5. Unfortunately after a month's use, the **bleep** thing's laser just went out on me. As I was using it yesterday, I noticed the cursor started to stutter, and then it just stopped altogether. The clicks, wheel, and side buttons all work, but the cursor won't move. I've tried installing setpoint and tested the mouse on multiple computers, but I get the same result. I looked at the laser transmitter and couldn't see a laser at all. I'm pretty pissed that this happened. Has anyone else had this problem??

Yes, there are lots of people having exactly the same problem. It's all over the forum:smileyhappy: Get a warranty replacement and hope the next mouse will last longer. Good luck!

If the sensor on a laser goes out, it will go out quickly. Usually within the first 24 hours of use. That's why we have a warranty on these (And a 3 year warranty at that!). We've got your products covered :smileyhappy:

thx CharlesB, I've sent a request into Logitech support, but they hit me w/ the you're-probably-an-idiot-and-it's-not-a-defective-mouse response. I'm not too happy with that. I'm sitting here w/ a defective mouse, and I'm probably going to have to wait another day for this customer service rep to get back to me to start the RMA process. Any chance you can throw in a good word for me for an upgrade? *wink G9? :smileyvery-happy:
