G5 corded locking up laptop

i have used this G5 on this laptop for more than a year. all was working well last night. this morning, the screen was locked up (i have not installed any programs and computer was not turned off overnight). no obivous reason, neither reboot nor system restore would fix the problem.

i didn't even suspect the mouse until i plugged it into another laptop to google for info.  same thing happened, as soon as mouse was plugged in, the screen froze.

both machines are working fine when booted up without mouse, as soon as mouse is plugged in, they freeze.

any ideas on where to start with a fix? i really like this mouse!

Hi:smileyhappy:,

Does the lockup also happen if SetPoint is uninstalled?

Re: G5 corded locking up laptop

SetPoint is not installed on one of the laptops.  they are both Dells running WinXP Pro Service Pack2. This G5 is my 'laptop mouse' and has spend most of its time in its box. i have the same model mouse on my desktop with heavy use and no problems. i am away from my office so i can not test if it's the mouse itself that is the problem.  i was hoping for a fix as i hate having to use the touchpad.

Hi:smileyhappy:,

Presently, it does look like the problem is with the mouse. To confirm this, please try using the mouse that's working with the laptop(s) that have experienced the lock up.
