G-series Gaming Mice

I bought a G500 gaming mouse 2 days ago to replace my v1 G5 and from the start I've been bugged by a jumpy mouse pointer/dodgy laser tracking. I've tried it on 3 different surfaces: 2 hard and 1 soft, all the same results.

Trying to click small text or icons is a bother because the jumpiness makes it annoyingly innaccurate. It's the same with games. Weirdly, it also moves the pointer when the mouse is shook in the air which I have never seen before on any mice and the smallest bang on my desk makes the mouse pointer go ballistic for about half a second. Surely none of this is meant to happen.

Is there anything I can do to fix this or resolve my situation?
