G500 defective lift off distance?

Hi, I bought a G500 and when lifting up, the cursor would go nuts. Even when barely lifting it up, it would jitter around like crazy. It was even far worse than what was shown in this video of a defective G9x and it's lift off problems: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CDuAuQ7hEiU I returned that one and went to a different store and got another. Now I'm experiencing almost the same exact problem as the above video (but again, with a G500, not a G9x). I noticed that when I lift the mouse up, it actually stops tracking at a very low distance like normal, but when lifted slightly higher it seems to start trying to track again, causing the cursor to start to jitter. I'm guessing this is a defect, because I doubt the G500 would not have gotten any of the good reviews that it did if it wasn't. I'm obviously going to return this one since it's useless to me the way it is, but I'm worried that I'm going to get another defective one. When I bought my original G5 and then the G5 v2, I had no issues at all. Unless I just got lucky with those, what happened to Logitech's quality control?

Hi, jk220.

I've bought a g500 recently and had the same problems as you described. After suffering a day playing with configs of g500 i gave up and brought it back to the shop. I'm still using MX500 and happy with it.

After browsing internet i've found a page:

As for my guess, i think the build quality of g500 varies and Logitech should take a notice.

The page is in russian, so here is adapted google translation:

Today, once again dismantled the device (for the second time), took off all that you can even scroll wheel with all the "vaunted" mechanism Microgear (or whatever it ..). Waving mouse from side to side - something loose, even if the finger hold mikriki (by the way they manufacture Omron). After a couple of hours of torment, the culprit was found - it was very lens!

Lens dangling from side to side with a fairly decent play. Completely pulled out a fee at the bottom of the base I saw a mouse oval (one inside the other) paths, and on the surface of the base lens-oval lugs, respectively. Long puzzled as to make a little squeeze lens? It was decided to resort to good old duct tape. Cut strips of about 1.5 mm in width and 4-5 mm in length. These strips glued into grooves on the basis of the mouse. Ultimately, the assembly of the assembly lens tucked stopped to rattle. It seems that the result is achieved.

Re: G500 defective lift off distance?

I have this exact same problem, when lifting the mouse to re-adjust position on the table, the mouse will stop tracking like it should, but if I lift it another mm or so it will attempt to track which leads to the cursor moving around erratically. Have you ever tried playing a game like QuakeLive with a mouse that does this? Obviously the people at Logitech don't actually play games at all, or this POS mouse would never have been released.
