G500S not recognized by Logitech Gaming Software

I am having trouble with my newly purchased G500S Mouse.

Logitech Gaming Software (8.46) does not recognize the mouse. In Device Manager in Windows it is only listed as a HID-compatible mouse and not any form of Logitech Mouse.

I tried rebooting with/without the mouse connected, reinstall LGS (also a lower version, 8.20), tried getting my old G300 recognized on this computer to no luck. It seems like the driver for Logitech mice is not automatically installed in the Device Manager, and thus the LGS cannot find it.

Re: G500S not recognized by Logitech Gaming Software

Additional info: When removing all USB input devices from Device Manager, rebooting to force Windows to acknowledge the mouse I can see it classifying the Mouse correctly as "G500s Laser Mouse", but as the Driver-searching software runs it reclassifies the mouse as a HID-Compatible Mouse when trying to find a driver for the G500s on Windows Update. It seems like Windows won't let the mouse get installed.

Anyone got any help?

Re: G500S not recognized by Logitech Gaming Software

Same thing happened to me. Installed s/w but it won't recognize the mouse but device manager sees it as a G500S. I tried it on two computers with no luck. It's going back to Best Buy. I have two trackballs and a game pad from Logitech with no s/w problems but I don't want to spend more time figuring it out. That's what S/W engineers are for, I just want to game!

I've posted a possible solution in other threads here on this forum. Namely:

Install, and then run, LGS as an Administrator.

In order to do this, perform the following:

Installation:

  • Locate the LGS_8.50.281_x64_Logitech.exe file you downloaded
  • Right Click > Run as administrator
  • Complete the installation via the wizard

After Installation (make sure you exit the currently running version of LGS from the System Tray first using Right Click > Exit!):

  • Navigate to C:\Program Files\Logitech Gaming Software\
  • Right Click on LCore.exe > Properties
  • Change to the Compatability Tab
  • Check the option under Privilege Level to Run this program as an administrator
  • Click Apply
  • Click OK
  • Double click LCore.exe to start LGS

Hopefully now that LGS is running as an administrator it will see your mouse. :smileyvery-happy:

If you're having trouble with the mouse drivers not installing correctly, you can try manually updating them via Device Manager and pointing them at C:\Program Files\Logitech Gaming Software\Drivers\

From within Device Manager:

  • Either under Mice and other pointing devices OR Other Devices, locate your USB receiver for the mouse. Should be listed as HID-compliant mouse OR Unknown Device
  • Right-click > Update Driver Software...
  • Browse my computer
  • Browse to C:\Program Files\Logitech Gaming Software\Drivers\ and make sure Include subfolders is checked
  • Next
  • Hopefully installs correct driver now.

If this fails then:

  • Either under Mice and other pointing devices OR Other Devices, locate your USB receiver for the mouse. Should be listed as HID-compliant mouse OR Unknown Device
  • Right-click > Update Driver Software...
  • Browse my computer
  • Let me pick
  • Have Disk
  • C:\Program Files\Logitech Gaming Software\Drivers\LGSHidFilter
  • Make sure Show compatible hardware is checked. Should display just Logitech G700s/G500s/etc. for your particular mouse (or perhaps Logitech Cordless Gaming Reciever.)
  • Select > Next.

Hopefully now the correct driver is installed for you.
