Re: G700 and small mouse movements

I bought the G700 a week ago and I still can't get used to it.. A major factor is that in its wireless mode it feels sticky during small movements

I owned an LX7 wireless mouse and its movement was perfect.. it could respond to even the slightest movements of my almost motionless hand! But I thought it was time to get a better mouse with more buttons and functionality, so I got the G700

I downloaded the newest SetPoint software, got the latest update, went to Device Options > checked all 3 profiles and clicked "Restore" (defaults)... still no improvement. Am I doing something wrong? or should I try something different? like certain settings in the profile?

When I connect it to the cable its working much better, almost like my LX7 (although I have to get used to the different grip). So I guess it doesn't have to do with the selection of DPI (2000), it's certainly a bug of the wireless mode.

I have to say I'm pretty much disappointed right now and the only way I want to keep using this mouse is because I spent €100 on this device which, otherwise, feels superb (design, buttons, macro capabilities etc).

I  hope a REAL fix will be out soon.

Re: G700 and small mouse movements

So after 2 months and 8 pages of discussions, can someone tell me if this "fix" actually does what it is supposed to or not?

I am looking into getting a new gaming mouse, and having had G7 which had similar issues, plus was getting interference from any wireless router around, I am not going to spend one dime more on Logitech "Gaming" product, unless I read something positive about it.

And being ergonomic and sexy looking is not making a product attractive unless it works as advertised.

Any comments are appreciated.

Re: G700 and small mouse movements

Can I adjust the USB polling rate on my G700 without installing setpoint?

Re: G700 and small mouse movements

No, the 'fix' does NOT fix this problem. It did make it slighly better than before the 'fix' but the problem is still there. You can easily 'feel' it when you're running Windows with high resolution, like 1900x1200 -- when trying to move the pointer just a small margin you have to kind of force it to move, which causes it to move further than you intended to. As many people before said, this problem goes away if you plug the USB cable in, so it only shows itself when running in the wireless mode. I still like the mouse but use it mostly in 'cabled' mode. I hope Logitech comes up with a 'real' fix.

Your post worried me as I held off buying this mouse until I thought this had been fixed and would be unhappy if it was still present. After reading your post I have been trying to get my G700 to display the problem, but have not been able to recreate it. I am finding that for very small movements at various DPI, polling, battery profiles, wireless and wired that the mouse behaves the same all the time and does not give any 'sticking'.

I was surprise by this when I first got the mouse as Charles said that the fix would only work for high power battery settings, but I have mine on the most aggressive power saving mode and it has worked flawlessly since purchase. I was using a G500 before that, which has the same sensor, so it would be very noticeable if mouse movements were worse.

How about everybody else? Is this still an issue or should tovmask be looking at other reasons for his mouse miss behaving, like wireless interference, or a broken mouse, etc?

Re: G700 and small mouse movements

As OP, stating this again, the fix removed any issues I was having. The wireless mode behaves completely identifical to the wired mode. Please note that I did not ever apply the official update, but I'm still using the unofficial fix that Charles provided by through email. This leads to me conclude that your update is not getting pushed down correctly through the SetPoint update manager to your mouse, tovmask.

I still hate using the mouse in wired mode because the wire is so horribly stiff and makes my mouse bounce when I release it. Has anyone had any luck splicing the wire with a braided usb cable, or know where to buy a single braided microusb cable? When you have had a wireless mouse for a while you learn to plug it in when you go to bed or go to work. It becomes 2nd nature, so this isn't really a problem for me, but how you can market a gaming mouse without braided cable nowadays is beyond me.

Re: G700 and small mouse movements

Here are the versions of the drivers/software that are running:

SetPoint Software: 6.15

Software Version: 6.15.25

Post Date: 07/20/2010

Platform: Windows 7 64-bit

SetPoint Version: 5.40.41

Driver Version: 5.10.9

Firmware Version: 22.35

I just tested this again and the same thing happens -- the moment I unplug the USB cable, 'jerky' movements start; plugging it back -- the movements are smooth.

CharlesB, if you are still monitoring this thread, is it possible that the fix you are sending through e-mails is not the same fix that is being pushed through the SetPoint's autoupdate?

Re: G700 and small mouse movements

I just received my mouse yesterday, went and downloaded SetPoint 6.15, and I'm having trouble with small movements. It would be nice if someone could clarify which version (I read 5.40.41) will fix the jerky small movements and where it can be found. I would assume the latest version would contain the fix, but given my past experiences with Logitech drivers/software, I wouldn't rule anything out. Someone please help us before I have to return this mouse and go back to my MX1000.

Re: G700 and small mouse movements

I think I got my issue resolved. Looking at the program, I had 5.40.39 and clicking update didn't show anything. For whatever reason, when I tried again this morning, it found 5.40.41 and updated. The fine movements seem better now.

Re: G700 and small mouse movements

I received my G700 mouse yesterday and experienced similar problems with sticky cursor movements.  Also the cursor speed seemed to be too slow. I had it maxed out at 5000 dpi and it was barely useable on my 1920x1080 monitor.  I remember using an earlier logitech mouse set at 2400 dpi and it was so fast I had to decrease it to about 1800, so I know something is wrong.

I installed the set point software yesterday but didn't see a difference. While looking through the forums I noticed that set point version 6.20.64 was just posted yesterday so I'm hoping that I downloaded the earlier version before the update was posted. I'll download setpoint v6.20.64 today when I get home and see if it fixes my problem.

One thing that needs to be mentioned is the terrible cable choice  when used in wired mode.  Clearly driver problems/software problems can't be avoided, but just the fact that Logitech would select a mouse cable that is absolutely useless in wired mode due to it's stiffness really makes me question if Logitech even has a QA department.
