G-series Gaming Mice

Hi,

Been a while since this i posted to this topic. I still use my old G7 mouse with the same freezing issue i had for about 2 years. But last night the wing of genious struck me and i may have found why the freezing occurs. When i accidentally unplugged the USB receiver from the base i noticed my mouse doing the freezing reset DPI to default thing. I deliberatlly repeated the this with the same results. I also noted that overtime the range of the mouse decreased. When brand new it worked from 30 feet away without freezing, but now when 10 feet away it looses connection complettly. So i thought that it might be an natenna issue in the receiver.

I took the receiver apart; there is a zig-zag pcb track at the far end that acts as the antenna. I pelled of the solder mask at the end of it and soldered a 2 inch copper whire incresing the antenna length. GUESS WHAT??? the freezing went away.Moouse works fine, but i have a thing straight copper whire comming of my receiver. As long as it's straight (omnidirectional) the mouse never freezes, but if i try to fold it a bit and stick it to the receiver case the freezing comes again. So if there is someone whith knowledge about antenae design (i'm only building logic boards) please share your thought, because this might be the end of our freezing miserry.

I have a also a Logitech G7 and i also have the freeze problem.

I bought the mouse in 2006 and had it replaced in 2007 for the freeze problem, but after a couple of years not using it i started using it again last summer.

now the mouse begins freezing again, on some forums i read that its because its a windows 7 issue, others say its because of bad connections with the battery, and i hear that is because a bad reciever.

my question is: help!! how can i fix this, and whats the warranty period??

Yes my replacement just started doing the Freeze thing. Pretty bad when you have a replacement doing the same thing. logitech must know what is up with these things. I cannot try plugging into my G15 keyboard cause that thing also stopped working over 2 yrs ago when half the keys just stopped working. looking on there site alot of other users had this same problem. i then bought a replacement (luminated keyboard) and 2 of the keys fell off that after about a month. I am not sure if i should buy another logitech product as i would think that i had bad luck but going to the forums after things go wrong with my logitech products their are other customers having the same issue. Please what can i do to have this mouse replaced and be done with this issue?

g7s have always had a problem. they suddenly die, and for a while logitech stopped asking questions and simply sent a new mouse. i just stumbled across a fix though. i bought 2 more g7s to replace my other dead g7 and g5. one of my "new" g7s died and i couldnt find the receiver for the other one so i got desperate and went back to searching and found a really simple and stupid fix.. something i never knew was even possible. they have a connect utility. which isnt even really needed.. as long as you follow the procedure to reconnect the wireless mouse.

1) connect everything and turn everything on.

2) hold left mouse button

3) tap the power button on the bottom of the g7 (different procedure for sliding switch)

4) press right mouse button 5 times.

5) let go of left mouse button

6) tap power button on bottom of g7 again

7) wait.. about 10 seconds... mouse works again

8) rejoice

logitech products often have problems, but they did make the first 1ms wireless mouse and they did it years ago. something most companies still cant do to this day, and when they do they always screw it up somehow, or they charge way too much. i bought 2 g7s for about $70cad each on ebay and to this day its still my favorite mouse and i really wish they didnt discontinue it so i didnt have to hunt around to buy one from soneone else since they probably thought it was dead, when they were probably just using the logitech software..which for some reason makes the mouse stop working.. it did have one purpose though.. got 1ms for the g5.. other than that its garbage. of course now that i know how to bring life back to my mouse there is no reason to buy any more.. right? lets hope so. logitech. i hate you and love you at the same time. youre just lucky i found a way to fix your mistake.

maybe i celebrated too early. it worked for several minutes anyways.. longer than usual. then it did it again.. its a love hate relationship..

The infamous G7 mouse freeze...  I have solved the problem, at least for myself.  Here is my basic setup:

G7 Wireless Mouse

Verizon FIOS Actiontec router

Windows 7 on Dell XPS laptop

At first I couldn't put two and two together, but I started to notice that when I was using a lot of bandwidth, the mouse lag was proportional to my bandwidth usage.  When I used the touchpad on my laptop, the mouse moved fine so it wasn't a weird hardware issue native to my computer.  I decided to try something, since i had the epiphone that both the mouse and my wireless router were 2.4 ghz.  I went into the channel settings on my router (wifi routers vary widely, but this setting should be available for modification on all of them) and changed the channel from "automatic," which i believe cycles the channels, to channel 6.  I read online that channel 1, 6, and 11 are the standard channels and that other channels might cause wifi performance degradation.  I take that kind of information with a grain of salt as the internet is 97.354% BS...  So I tried channel 6.  Haven't had a single freeze of my mouse since.  I'm sure that this solution won't help EVERYONE, but give it a try, it worked for me!

I just came across my old (purchased in 2008) G-7 in a cabinet and thought I'd check to see if it still had issues - clearly it still does. The problem I had been having was erratic behavior - either the cursor would lag while moving the mouse - and then shoot forward past the target; or it would somehow avoid what I was trying to click on, hovering around the button but never actually moving over it so I could click on it.

I put it aside for a while and went back to my old LX7 - which I had to replace a couple of years later but was glad to do so even at the same price as the original.  Since then I practically forgot I had this mouse until now - a $100 aberration better forgotten still, apparently. 

Still, though, I loved the replacement/rechargable battery concept and still do - so I'll tinker around with it one more time to see what happens.  I still use Windows XP, so I know it won't be a Windows 7 issue; I have a new (different) router, so hopefully that won't be an issue either.  And I'll try the bit about using a different USB port - it's worth a try!

The whole epxerience should have soured me a bit on Logitech, but it hasn't - do they have any other mice with the rechargable battery design?  I might be interested (after thoroughly checking the forums first, that is).

So here is the most interesting thing I haven't seen anyone mention.

I have 2 of these mice. Both exhibit the issue and have for roughly 2-3 years now. I've had one for almost 5. They just randomly freeze. This happened in WinXP, Win Vista, Win7.

I decided that for a time I was tired of Windows and wiped everything and installed Suse Linux 12.1. Guess what, my mouse NEVER exhibited the issue, but when I would hook it up to my Win7 Laptop the issue would occur. I could swap the 2 mice back and forth and which ever one was connected to Linux would work flawlessly, while the one connected to Windows had the issue. I recently put my desktop back to Windows due to some LCD/Remote HTPC case features that only existed in Windows...within the first hour of being back on Windows the problem re-occured.

Riddle me this batman, why does the problem only occurs in Windows?

ibekman was 100% correct on this fix for my setup.

I had just installed 2 brand new linksys wireless routers at either end of our new office, one of them being mounted directly at my desk.  My G7 would freeze periodically, it never did before.

I configured both wireless routers to stay on thier own channels instead of the deafult 'auto' setting.  Now my mouse works just like it should.
