: Dual Action Gamepad compatibility with MAC COD 4?

The reviews of this gamepad on the Apple Store site are reporting that the unit is not functional with Call of Duty 4. I was thinking of getting it but now I'm not sure.

On another topic, if it does work, how hard is it to learn to point in FPS, first person shooters, with a game pad?  The mouse is directional, but m MX Revolution is way too sensitive and over turns....

Thanks

Excellent! Thanks for the fresh post! Now when you get a solution that you like or works for you, you can mark it as "solved" to imply the answer helped :smileyvery-happy:

At this point, it appears that CoD4 does not have gamepad support on the mac. I will do some additional research into this, but usually gamepad support is handled by the developers, and if the developer does not include support, then our gamepad cannot be used.

There are 3rd party USB utilites that allow you to capture USB commands and change them to keystrokes, allowing the device to effectively emulate a keyboard through software, but I can't specifically recommend a particular one. We are aware of this situation, and we are exploring our options to help our customers be served even better with our products.

Thank you Charles for your feedback.  I'll await your solution. But on the other thread, you suggested mouse and keyboard work best for FPS.  My problem is that I have a wireless MX revolution. It is great for my work, but it is so sensitive that I find myself over correcting, turning past the target, etc., and then getting killed in the process. I've turned the sensitivity down to about zero in the games themselves (like Medal of Honor or Call of Duty 2), but I really wish I could point at the screen with a pistol grip solution.  I don't know if being a wireless unit and the delays and acceleration are a problem, but I just cannot fine tune it.

What do you have your OS mouse speed at? What's the exact speed in your ingame settings?

Re: : Dual Action Gamepad compatibility with MAC COD 4?

Well, my tracking speed is set to medium in keyboard and mouse in Leopard, but ever since I had a the previous mouse to the Revolution (an MX1000), I have used the Steermouse software because it gave me the ability to completely assign actions to all buttons for different software, whereas with the Logitech software, some of the buttons didn't work on the Mac. So Steermouse has an acceleration setting that is universal for all programs, so the faster you move the mouse the further it goes, like a sling shot. I've got that set to about 300, if that means anything. If I turn it down too low, the mouse movement crawls to a standstilll

Ingame is set to minimum speed.

Just for the sake of testing, would you be willing to remove the 3rd party app? Or is there a way to temporarily disable it? Or can you specifically disable their acceleration settings while playing CoD4?

I haven't used Steermouse, so honestly "300" doesn't mean anything to me besides a movie :smileywink:

Re: : Dual Action Gamepad compatibility with MAC COD 4?

Hi,  I've been tinkering with the settings and I reduced the acceleration (it is a global function and you can't set it separately for games), and i think it is working better, but I've only tried it one day so far.  I'll let you know if it becomes more manageable. I'm just so tired of everyone else getting the draw on me :-)
