Extreme 3d Pro Joystick / USB 350 Headset Issues.

HI HI,
I own the 350 USB headset. Just very recently i purchased the USB Extreme 3d Pro Joystick, i installed the both the the drivers that came with the product, and the newest drivers available.

My Problem is, when i have the USB Joystick connected, sound from the headset is badly distorted.

Any ideas how i can resolve this?

I just got the new G25 Wheel and I am getting the same problem you are. I tried a bunch of different things to try and correct it to no avail. I went out today and bought a new 350 headset (just in case is wasnt my old Stereo 200 headset)  And I'm still having the same problem. I found that if I un-installed my wheel and the software I will work with no distortion. As soon as I load up the wheel and software the distortion returns.

I am using v5.0 Gaming software....  what version are you using with your stick?

*edit  I already have sent an email to the support staff and I'm waiting for their response. Hopefully they will get back to me soon.

Re: Extreme 3d Pro Joystick / USB 350 Headset Issues.

Hey :smileyhappy: ,

If I understood the issue correctly, it seems to me that the audio transmitted through the headset is distorted when you have your Logitech Extreme 3d Pro Joystick. There is a very high possibility that this might be caused by too many devices being loaded on your USB ports. I would suggest that you only connect devices that are required. If possible, I would also require additional information from you.

1. What Operating Systems are you running on?
2. What type of power supply do you have your system plugged into?

Looking forward to your responses. :smileyhappy:

Re: Extreme 3d Pro Joystick / USB 350 Headset Issues.

OS=WinXP SP2 build 2600?
PS=500w  (i think)

I did a system restore, performed the clean boot as suggested in the email response to my incident report, and still had the same issues. As stated in my reply I have verified that the distortion only shows up if I plug in my wheel. It is not a software related issue. I also tried removing all usb devices except for headset and plugged in the wheel and got the distortion.

I have tried both devices in different ports
I have a 7 port USB Hub with its own power source
Power to the wheel is being reported as 80ma    Power to USB Modem 40ma    Power to HID complaint Mouse 50ma
Headset is being detected at a different source (Generic USB Hub) at 100ma
Each is telling me that there is 500ma available per port

*note: the distortion will show up even when trying to run the Windows Microphone setup program. I'm thinking this is the same thing thats happening to the original poster as well. Hopefully I'm not "hijacking" the original posters thread, but if one of us can come up with a solution or we can find similar situations we can possibly solve both of our problems. (i also didnt want to start a new thread for the same problem)

Re: Extreme 3d Pro Joystick / USB 350 Headset Issues.

OH some replies. : D
Yeah same version of the software
Running Xp and 480W
I was thinking it was too many usb devices plugged in as i have the g7 keyboard/g5 mouse/modem/lit up mouse pad then joystick/headset connected to the usb. Though knighthawk66 has a 7 port USB Hub with its own power source.

And nah your not hijacking thread : ) if one of us gets it solved im sure it will work for the other.

Couldnt find any info, but does USB have any limits / restrictions?

Re: Extreme 3d Pro Joystick / USB 350 Headset Issues.

Ok after following the initial support suggestion that Mona emailed me, and after having done some more diagnosing, I have determined that it is DEFINITELY NOT a software issue, too many USB devices, or too many Logitech devices. I have the same Joystick as you do Supra and I can plug it in, have it work, and NOT have any issues with the headset. As soon as I plug my wheel in (even without loading the software) my headset gets distorted. The distortion will remain if I unplug my headset and I have to reboot my computer for it to return to normal. Afriend that I race online with has the new G25 too, he also uses a USB headset but he isnt getting any distortion. He does have a different brand of headset and a different soundcard than I do but we both have them setup the same way.

I started unplugging connectors from my wheel to eliminate the pedals, the power supply, or the shifter as the source of the problem. The distortion remained. The only thing left that I couldnt unplug was the USB cable. The only thing that is the same between your joystick and my wheel is this cable. Which is where I think the problem is. Unless we can come up with some similarities in our computers I would have to say that there may be a couple of defective USB cables floating around and we each have one. I have 2 options left to test.

Option 1 Fire up my old computer and plug the headset and wheel into it and see if I have the same problem.
Option 2 Take all of my Logitech stuff over to a friends house and see if the distortion happens on his.

Just out of curiosity Supra,  what kind of soundcard, graphics card, and cpu do you have? Its a stab in the dark but maybe we have something in common in our computers that could be causing it.

As far as USB limits, yes there are. They should be listed in device manager. I found mine under Sound video game controllers and under USB device there is a tab for power. It told me how much power was being supplied and the limit. Mine was 500ma per port max. Now my wheel has a sticker on it that says 500ma but the one on the joystick says 30ma so I dont think its a power issue.

I'll keep you posted on my results

Re: Extreme 3d Pro Joystick / USB 350 Headset Issues.

Well, my problem has resolved itself. Dont ask me how it did, but it did.

I plugged my headset and wheel into my old computer and at first the wheel wouldnt work, and I got distortion. I rebooted the computer and bingo!!! I had clear sound thru the headset. At that point I wasnt too happy because I began thinking the problem was with my computer. So I plugged them both back in the new one, fired up TS and had distortion immediately. I turned off the computer, unplugged every USB connector, shook them around like a ragdoll and plugged them back in. I turned my computer back on and I got a message telling me my new hardware needed to reboot the computer before installation was complete. When I did I fired up TS and I had crystal clear sound. After I emailed Mona my results I plugged in the old L'tech 200 headset I had originally and it worked perfectly too. So now I'm at a loss as to what actually happened, but I can hear/talk with no distortion again.

Now I just need to see if my joystick will work if I plug it in and use the new software to switch between the two controllers.

I suggest you try what I did, who knows? it might just work for you. At this point....what do you have to lose?

Good luck Supra

Thank you very much for your help Mona

Re: Extreme 3d Pro Joystick / USB 350 Headset Issues.

Hellow all

Same problem with usb sound distortion with G25 wheel, did just about everything mentioned in above posts narrowing down all usb device to just wheel and usb headset directly to computer... instant distortion. Exchange for another G25 and another brand of usb headset.... same problem. I'am no pc tech but maybe using a powered usb hub is the answer? I'am using a high end SLI gaming rig with 500w power supply so power no problem. Works great with external speakers off sound card and I guess I could use a splitter off the sound card using analog headset and turning down the volume on external speakers but seems a little lame. I'am spoiled with the sound from my usb headset. No conflicts in device mgr. I don't get it. Any input would be appreciated.

Re: Extreme 3d Pro Joystick / USB 350 Headset Issues.

I'm not sure what the answer is here. As stated I dont know what ended up solving my problem. Originally I had my headset and wheel plugged into a usb hub with its own power source when I first started getting the distortion. I thought the hub was the culprit, but after still getting it with both the wheel and headset plugged directly into the computer, I realized that wasnt it.

I'm sure that you have done this, but I'm going to suggest it anyways. It may be that you need to SHUT DOWN the computer instead of letting it reboot. I'm thinking that is what finally let my computer "recognize" the headset fully. I'm also wondering if you are like me, and have done some of the XP tweaks (the ones posted by Black Viper) and you have the PNP service turned off. Maybe that isnt letting XP load the drivers it needs for the headset to work right. (shot in the dark)

I say try it this way.

Un install the wheel software and every instance of the logitech software from your registry.
Unplug your headset and then TURN OFF your computer completely. Wait a minute or two and then restart it.
Uninstall your headset and any reference to it, TURN OFF your computer and wait again, then restart
Plug the wheel in and follow the installation instructions
After you calibrate the wheel and test it, TURN OFF your computer again.
Plug in your headset and THEN turn on your computer.
XP should detect the headset and the wizard will tell you that its ready.
Turn off your computer again and then restart it.

If you get a message saying that windows has found new hardware and needs to reboot after installing the headset or the wheel it MAY work for you like mine did. One final thing, make sure you are starting in Normal startup mode, not in Selective startup.

Good luck
