Wireless Guitar Controller Premiere Edition with Rock Band

I'm excited to hear logitech is making a nice guitar hero guitar but I wanted to voice my strong preference that it work with Rock Band as WELL as Guitar hero. I have, right now, 4 plastic guitars sitting around. 1 for the PS2, two for the PS3 guitar hero, and one for PS3 Rockband. I'm getting tired of buying these things. Compatability is going to start mattering more and more to me.

It's very appealing that your guitar works with PS2 and PS3 GH. That's great. If you really want to knock them dead (and you should for the pricepoint you're asking), you should also support rock band. Also, if you really want me to pre order this thing, you'd tell me that it plays GH1 and GH2 PS2 editions on the PS3 platform seamlessly. Nothing does that anymore. I'd love to get rid of my old PS2 but I like playing GH1/GH2/GH80s...

Re: Wireless Guitar Controller Premiere Edition with Rock Band

Rock Band support for our controllers depends on support existing in the game. It's not the other way around (which is what I'm thinking you're thinking :smileywink: ). Basically, for various reasons, we picked a USB hardware ID that is designed to be compatible with Guitar Hero, and it will be Rock Band's application/game that decides on whether to recognize the guitar or not.

Well, I would expect it works now that my USB GH3 controller works in Rock Band. If it doesn't, your guitar is inherently less flexible.

What about the support for PS2 games on the PS3 that are currently unsupported by any guitar?

As I said, the limitation isn't in the hardware, but in how the game recognizes the hardware. I personally haven't tested this within Rock Band, so I couldn't say from personal experience. But, the limitation of support isn't some weird factor of the hardware: It depends on the behavior of the game software.

And no to the PS2 games being played on PS3. Like above, since our guitar is based on Red Octane's specific guidelines to be an official Guitar Hero World Tour controller, it wont add features in that fashion. Anyways, what you're running into there is a limitation of Sony's PS2 emulation on the PS3: The only controller transcription that takes place in the emulator is the adaption of Sony OEM PS3 controllers to function like PS2 controllers. Since the original Guitar Hero games depended on Controller Port guitars, the new guitars are USB as per Red Octane, and Sony does not include a USB->Controller Port function in their PS2 emulator on the PS3, we cannot add that functionality.
