890 (RF) Died Is there a IR Alternative???

[ Edited ]

My 890 has the "blue screen" and the channel button doesn't work.  I have tried taking the battery out, connecting it to the Logitech Update and holding down the Off button while installing the battery, still no go.  It is out of the warranty period and I really don't want to pay for a whole new remote and RF extender when the extender is good.  I like the Harmony One but it is only IR and all the equipment is in a cabinet.  Do they sell or make some type of IR extender, if so what would be the best one to look at?

Thanks in Advance!

Hi john32

I am sorry to hear that your remote's LCD and Channel button are not working properly. Have you tried upgrading the firmware on your remote? Sometimes this can resolve LCD issues.

To Upgrade the Firmware

1. Login to the Harmony software

2. Click 'Downloads' in the top right corner

3. Click 'Firmware'

If the LCD is still blue and the issue with your channel button remains, I would suggest contacting Technical Support. They will be able to assist you further.

Regards,

Mark

Re: 890 (RF) Died Is there a IR Alternative???

If you're not far out of the warranty sometimes Logitech will "goodwill" a failure (if you're at 13 months this is likely, if you're at 2 years it's not).  Unfortunately there is no RF version of the One available, but it is widely rumored to be announced soon.  Another option is to look into a generic IR repeater system, this has the benefit of working with any remote but it requires an IR "eye" visble close to the TV to repeat the IR signals.  It's also not addressable like the RF extender is, you can't specify that some signals go to a specific port.  This could be a problem if you've got two identical pieces of equipment you need to control.

These people http://www.xantech.com/   make some excellent IR repeaters.  It takes wiring in your rack but they are easy and once installed no more headaches.   Bob L
