Harmony 550 doesn't respond

[ Edited ]
OK, My 550 sometimes just does NOTHING when I hit buttons. It sits there like its frozen. No lights, the LCD just says Welcome to your remote. Its not that welcoming when hitting buttons does nothing at all. It sort of worked for months but now it acts funny like this a lot and does nothing. I have all kinds of different AAA batteries because every troubleshooting guide online had the lame excuse "maybe the batteries are low" and it doesn't work. Sometimes I can throw new ones in and it won't work. Sometimes the remote will magically work the next day.

What is wrong with this thing?

I have it programmed with 1 activity called Watch TV that works great when the controller responds....

Re: Harmony 550 doesn't respond

due to the 'squishy keys', sometimes one will get stuck down without you realizing it.

pretty much try mashing all the buttons around to make sure none are stuck...chances are your remote will become responsive again.

if not, you may need to call tech support about a replacement

Samsung LCD HDTV (LN52B750), Scientific Atlanta HD DVR Cable Box (Explorer 8300HD), Panasonic BluRay Player (DMP-BD55), Onkyo Receiver (TX-SR806), XBox 360, Nintendo Wii, SlingCatcher....all with my Harmony 1100 w/ Wireless Extender

Re: Harmony 550 doesn't respond

Wouldn't a stuck key actually be sending out commands all
the time and thus lighting at least the indicator for that???

I'm wondering if the remote doesn't happen to be in the "Off"-state:
no Activity selected, so no buttons mapped and no response.

Try selecting an activity (THE activity in your case) and then press some buttons...

Re: Harmony 550 doesn't respond

Mine is doing the exact same thing. It worked great and then all of a sudden, it doesn't do anything. I tried updating the firmware, replacing batteries, etc. It acts like none of the buttons work at all.

So far, no help from Logitech's e-mail support. I may try the phone service next.

Re: Harmony 550 doesn't respond

We have had the same problems with our 550 and called the phone tech support.  Logitech says it is a hardware problem and are replacing it at this very time.  We are sorry that we didn't spend the extra money last March and buy the Harmony ONE instead of this 550.  My husband has been very displeased with the 550 and this is our first time to use a universal remote.

Interesting, we bought a 550 back in March also, and now have the exact same problem. Absolutely no response from any key press. Guess I'll have to spend the hour or 2 on hold with tech support to find out what to do with it.

Why not just send an e-mail and tell them you need a replacement?

Re: Harmony 550 doesn't respond

Best suggestion ever!  Gotta take it easy on the extra buttery popcorn whilst pushing buttons.  Worked my way up from the bottom and discovered the "Play" button was stuck.  Remote works just fine now.

Thank You.

Re: Harmony 550 doesn't respond

You are a lifesaver, mine was doing the same thing.  Checked the play button and saw that it was stuck.  Problem solved!
