Harmony 659 + Intec PS3 Infared Remote = Harmony and PS3 compatibility?

I own a Harmony 659 and a Playstation 3. I am trying to be able to control the PS3. I am wondering if the remote I just bought at Future Shop for a PS3 which comes with a Infared sensor, if the harmony will be able to control the PS3 with that sensor that plugs into the usb port on the PS3. I don't know if anyone else has tried this already or not or if there is a thread for that already or not but any help would be great.

Seems that it should work if it's IR.  You may just have to manually program the functions one at a time if the device is not recognized by the software.  I've read of people controlling PS3's with the Harmony remotes except for powering them on and off which is why I haven't pursued this myself yet.  Please try it out and post your results.

I'll have to try some more with it later on tonight or even if it will learn off of the Intec Remote. Hopefully it works, the powering on and off I'm not too worried about. I'll let you know when i find out more.

The guy sitting next to me has the same remote from Futureshop and is controlling his PS3 with his 659. You might have to learn the directional keys, but everything else should work immediately.

I have one of these as well and cannot get the directional keys to work on my Harmony 880. Any ideas?

Also, is it possible to get other commands not on the original remote to work?

Re: Harmony 659 + Intec PS3 Infared Remote = Harmony and PS3 compatibility?

I own a Harmony 1000 and purchased the Intec PS3 IR remote with usb-dongle (14.99 on sale at Futureshop).
After spending a couple hours with a tier-2 help representative we nailed down a logitech profile for this Intec remote.
So now my Harmony supports all the functionality of the Intec remote AND I'm told the that the Intec profile is added to the Logitech database for future users. Apparently all you have to do is add a new Device > Game System , manufacturer == Intec and you'll be good to go. This includes working directional buttons which I've read some people have had trouble with.

I have the exact same setup with a H1000 and Intec PS3 and have been looking for a solution. I tried to add this to my devices as you noted (devices/game console/intec) but cannot find Intec as a manufacturer. What do I do?

Re: Harmony 659 + Intec PS3 Infared Remote = Harmony and PS3 compatibility?

What you need to do to learn the commands is learn them in RAW mode, to do this you have to learn IR commands, then click on the custom button on the lower right hand side of the screen.

one tip as well, when you learn the commands in raw mode, make sure you press the buttons on the intec VERY briefly, hold it at all, and it would be like holding down the button on your PS3 controller, it will store multiple commands.

Can someone who has this working save them and post what you named it. I tried but could not get it to work for the directional keys.

Re: Harmony 659 + Intec PS3 Infared Remote = Harmony and PS3 compatibility?

I would stay away from learning all the command via RAW mode- the directional buttons would not work for me doing this. I had to work with the L2-tech and he trimmed some of the code to get it to work. I was told that there would be an Intec profile added after my experience setting it up. Perhaps it is going through some verification process.
In any case, I would HIGHLY recommend phoning the logitech support line, tell them you want to setup an Intec remote.
Logitech DOES have an Intec profile (I'm proof of that), it may not be public yet. If the level-1 support try to tell you to otherwise (like try Nyko Blu-wave), ask for a level-2 tech and explain that you know that Intec support has proven.
