Re: Harmony 880 Buttons Failing / Logitech says Too Bad.

Same situation here.  My 880 about 2.5Y Old Volume+ Button doesnt work anymore without alot of pressure.  It is probably the most frequently used button maybe that is why.  I also have the dock charging issue.  I will try to clean the dock but in the mean time I will also contact support and see what they can do for me.  Man I love that remote.  What is the difference between it and the One - Just Ergo and One is a bit bigger?

Re: Harmony 880 Buttons Failing / Logitech says Too Bad.

I have the same problem with the volume up button that many others have described.  This many failures of that one switch is not a coincidence or abnormal wear issue, but a manufacturing defect that just took a while to appear.

I was able to get mine working again by inserting a very small, fiber washer through one of the two screws that hold the circuit board into the case (the screw closest to the volume up button).  The washer needs to be placed under the circuit board in order to raise the board up ever so slightly which has the same effect that others have mentioned of putting someting on the top of the printed circuit switch to decrease the space between the keypad and the printed circuit switch.

Wow this is quite the common issue. I've been noticing this too, not just the vol +/- buttons but a few others that I use frequently.  The remote is about 2.5 years old, and the problem started happening maybe 6 months ago.  It's too bad that an expensive remote is frequently failing this quickly.  At first I thought it was an issue with my DVR quickly noticed it was affecting multiple components and started watching the screen of the 880 and saw it wasn't even registering the button presses.

Re: Harmony 880 Buttons Failing / Logitech says Too Bad.

Here's another one to add to the list.

The Vol + button is not working. I also contacted Logitech, and they said my remote was out of warranty, and I got the same email as in the first post.

Logitech needs to wake up here, and replace our remotes. This is CLEARLY a manufacture defect with so many complaints. I am going to try and open ours up only after making one more call to Logitech to see if they will replace the remote.

Re: Harmony 880 Buttons Failing / Logitech says Too Bad.

Hey, at least you got an answer!

My 880 volume button started to fail. You really had to push hard to get any action out of it. To work around, I assigned the ^ V keys( Up and down). Now the channel up and down rocker switch is starting to fail as well! Knowing that other 880 owners are having the same issue, I asked Harmony to do the right thing and do a recall....

Their answer ? ( Cricket Sounds).

I do not accept " WannabeActuary's" notion that your view is a bit off since it is out of warranty. This product **bleep** and Harmony knows it. It never should have come to market. In it simplest endevour it fails miserably and I find that I still need to use multible remotes due to it's shoddy design and materials.

I will be notifying every website and magazine that has given this trash a favorable review with the truth about it's poor performance.

You got my money once.... Never again!

Re: Harmony 880 Buttons Failing / Logitech says Too Bad.

let me clarify...I don't think standing by a written warranty policy = a company saying 'too bad'

that said, if your buttons start to fail slightly out of warranty it's one thing...if they start failing after several years, it's another.

the basic point is that the remotes are like any other remote...they have buttons/moving parts...they're always subject to wear and tear and failure

Re: Harmony 880 Buttons Failing / Logitech says Too Bad.

Logitech Australia weren't much help with the Ch+ button on my 785.They basically said, "contact the retailer".

The retailer was an Australian eBay store who has no contact details other than a sales@ email address. All my correspondence to that address has been ignored.

I explained this to Logitech, they again told me to contact the retailer and closed my support ticket.

Re: Harmony 880 Buttons Failing / Logitech says Too Bad.

WannabeActuary: I totally understand what you are saying, but the fact is there are MULTIPLE remotes and they all have the same issue with the VOL+ button (being the primary button failing).

Regardless if the warranty is finished, this IS a manufacture issue. Logitech knows this, but is hiding behind their warranty.

They had issues with the charging base (due to design) and they replaced it.

They also had issues with their charging base on my Logitech MX5000 Keyboard/Mouse set, and they replaced that as well.

Why? Bad design.

The Vol+ is a BAD design, and they need to fix it. Will they? Probably not.

Re: Harmony 880 Buttons Failing / Logitech says Too Bad.

Same thing is happening with my 880 which is almost 2 years old.  The volume + button is not working and the right direction button is failing.  Will contact Logitech Support to see if I can get an RMA to replace it.  I'm disappointed as this seems to be a quality/design issue with their 880.  Hopefully, they can live up to the quality standards and expectations of a long time customer of their products.
