Re: Harmony 880 Buttons Failing / Logitech says Too Bad.

Well, I wasn't comfortable with a $200 remote that doesn't work, and the manufacturer won't fix:smileywink:

Either way, the fix I posted earlier *does* work, and means that I don't have to throw it in the trash and buy something else (equally expensive or more expensive).

:smileyhappy: Good luck everyone.

Re: Harmony 880 Buttons Failing / Logitech says Too Bad.

My volume up button also ceased to work. I opened the unit, and tried adding a dab of glue to raise the gold colored pad, but it did not work. What did work, was using a very tiny flat bladed screwdriver (like one for eyeglass repair), which I slipped under the pad from the outside edge of the plastic guard, and scraped gently a few times the underside of that gold pad.

I then tested by pushing on the pad with a ball point pen, and the volume up worked great. I put the 880 unit back together, and so far the volume up is working nicely. A hint in taking the unit apart: Use a thin piece of plastic, like a very stiff credit card, to slide and pry the snaps apart. Start at the bottom end.
It leaves no scars on the remote.

These remotes should not be having contact problems. Mine is almost 2 years old.

I have a 676 that the buttons work but the glow feature started failing in about 6 months. The updating of the firmware makes no sense to me because the glow would flicker on and off if the remote was shaken. Clearly not a firmware problem.

I've had the exact same problems with the volume up and channel up buttons on my 880. The remote was out of warranty, so I contacted American Express (they extend your warranty for up to one year for free) and they will be refunding the amount that I paid for the remote. I'm not going to buy another 880, but I hope the Harmony One does not suffer from any similar flaws.

Re: Harmony 880 Buttons Failing / Logitech says Too Bad.

same thing happened on my Sony RM-V3000 remote. Hard buttons stopped working after 2.5 yrs. Last night I finally disassemble the remote, clean all the contacts with a Q-tip. And ALL the buttons worked again!! Yeaaa....

D-oh! I bought the Harmony 1000 to replace the Sony..... oh well, I love them both.

Re: Harmony 880 Buttons Failing / Logitech says Too Bad.

My 895 Vol+ and Chan+ buttons started to fail after about 18 month of use. I contacted support, but all they could offer was a replacement remote at a discount price because it was out of warranty (no repair service in the UK!)

I've just bought a brand new 885/880 using some gift vouchers and the Vol+ and Chan+ buttons are the same - they only work with a large amount of pressue - and this is on a brand new remote!

I'll be getting it swapped under warranty, but I'm suprised Logitech are still shipping remotes with this fault as its a known issue by the looks of it.

Cheers

Re: Harmony 880 Buttons Failing / Logitech says Too Bad.

My Logitech Harmony 890 Pro remote has the same problem, only it is with the "up" button (the one on top of the central "ok" or "enter" button, that is mapped to moving your on screen guide up). All the others still work fine... but the remote is now basically useless since you cannot move up in the program guide, or up through your recorded programs, etc.

This started happening last week... exactly one month after the warranty expired. This has also happened to several people who belong to a forum I belong to. Here is the thread: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1067785

Logitech... please exhibit some customer service here. I would even be willing to pay a nominal fee in order to switch to a remote with a different style of button, as I love the Logitech remotes. I just find it infuriating that my $200+ remote has components that have failed exactly one month out of warranty.

I would contact Logitech support, they have been known to replace remotes that have been out of warranty

Re: Harmony 880 Buttons Failing / Logitech says Too Bad.

I'd call support ASAP, Logitech has been known to have a pretty good record for "goodwilling" failures that happen just out of warranty.  In the mean time, you can always map the affected key to the LCD screen or another button to regain the use of your remote.
