I purchased an 880 in 2006. By 8/2007 the Vol+ and Ch+ buttons were failing. Since it was out of warranty, Logitech declined to replace it. Well, I purchased a replacement 880 in 10/2007. Today, in 11/2008, the same Vol+ and Ch+ buttons are failing on the 2nd remote. Once again it is out of warranty....
Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me!

same story here. My Volume + button is going. I have to push hard/wiggle the push a bit more for it to work. I just took it apart to replace the IR LEDs (another common problem with these remotes due to poor design; charger base isn't very good and if you don't place it absolutely perfectly, it may not start charging, behave oddly and eventually burn out the IR LEDs) with 2 out of 2 old junk remotes I had lying around (which worked great and cost me nothing but some time researching here then reparing) and found that the volume + button seemed well used. It's just a little bubble button that if you squish it enough will eventually lose its bubble shape. It's starting to flatten so I know it's days are numbered... I will probably end up buying the Harmony One, but I hope I won't be posting it's issues in 2-3 years from now.
Sorry for the brackets; I tend to digress a bit.
Here's some pics of it apart (easy to do)
