Re: which one is the best IR to BT converter to buy for PS3? IR2BT, PS3IR-PRO, PS3toothfairy , IR4P

wow...that stinks.

IMO, the panasonic DMP-BD35k (available at amazon.com - from other sellers, and frys.com) at $250 is probably the way to go for a standalone player.  the DMP-BD55k is the same, except it supports 7.1 audio via analog as well as HDMI (like the 35k) and has divx compatibility.

amazon is running a deal, the BD55K is about 340 right now (MSRP of 400)....add 4 select warner BR movies to your cart and use the code AMAZONBD and it takes 100 off the total...I think the player and 4 movies I tested the cart and code with brought the total to 310...

kinda hard to beat that for a profile 2.0 player

Samsung LCD HDTV (LN52B750), Scientific Atlanta HD DVR Cable Box (Explorer 8300HD), Panasonic BluRay Player (DMP-BD55), Onkyo Receiver (TX-SR806), XBox 360, Nintendo Wii, SlingCatcher....all with my Harmony 1100 w/ Wireless Extender
Samsung LCD HDTV (LN40B640), Scientific Atlanta HD DVR Cable Box (Explorer 8300HD), Panasonic Blu-Ray Player (DMP-BD60), SlingCatcher, Monoprice HDMI Switch (HDX-501)....all with my Harmony 900 w/ 2 Blasters

[ Edited ]

Rockstead,

I don't have any experience with any of the other options, but I went the IR4PS3 route and am very satisfied.  I did a fair amount of internet searching and compared the various products based on either their websites and/or on-line reviews.  The real answer you seek is up to you based on your criteria; ie., functionality, cost, availability, etc.

A couple of options that I was interested in were not available at the time I was looking - got on their "email notice for when their product was going to ship" and received NOTHING after at least one month.

The IR4PS3 device was economical, uses the BT controller from the Sony remote, can be powered by USB, AVAILABLE, and supported by Logitech (it's in the pull down list).  The instructions for the device even have a section devoted to using it with Logitech remotes.  I have it set up using the USB out of my PVR (which is powered on all the time) so I don't have ANOTHER power supply or device to plug into my overcrowded outets.

So, all in all, I am very happy with the device and service (emails) with the product producer.  Not sure if you've already made your purchase, but if not I recommend the IR4PS3.  It just works.

Tom
