Deciding to but 880 remote

does anyone know if this remote can tell the difference between 2 units with almost identical model numbers.  I have a sony DVD explorer jukebox, model dvpcx985v and plan to buy the later model w/upconversion, model dvpcx995.  I will use one for DVD playback and the other for CD playback.  Will this remote be able to give commands to my system w/out sending the same info to both units.....need to know....please help!

No, and no other remote will either. Your problem isn't the remote, but the components. Sony, like almost every other brand, uses the same codes for similar functions amongst groups of components (i.e. every receiver from the same line will turn on when you hit the power button on one of their remotes, all CD Changers will play when you hit play on one of them, etc...).

Re: Deciding to but 880 remote

Hey thanks, this is very helpful in my next decision.  New plan of attack is to buy the DVD w/upconversion and the Sony cdpcx455 CD player, then get rid of my original Sony Explorer.  I believe this will resolve the headache of having to turn one component off every time I select the other.  I know sound will only play from the unit I select on the receiver, but I need the whole thing to be as seamless as possible.......thanks again.

Re: Deciding to but 880 remote

I'm not familiar with either of the DVD changers... although I'm looking at the 995. I have an older Sony CD changer that has a mode function on it, thus allowing up to 3 different changers. Does your remote or DVD changer have this function? If so, you could put one on mode 2, and the other on mode 1.... just  a thought. - JayMan.
