My guess is that the prompt/option for this are based on the class of items.  There maybe some satellite receivers that do have an input option so all satellite receivers have this as an option.

Yeah mine does too, but there is no input selection.  Local broadcasts are just shown in the guide along with the Sat channels, you don't have to select a separate input.  In fact there is an Input button on the Directv supplied remote, but it only controls the input selection on a TV.  It doesn't do anything with the Directv receivers.

That's another of the many reasons why superfluous options and commands get into the database.

They don't matter - you can just ignore them.

Yeah... but why not clean up the database and rid of commands that don't apply?  It would make it easier for someone just starting out.
