HELP!! Harmony 890 with Dish VIP 612

So according to the Logitech Website the 890 is compatible with my DishNetwork VIP-612 PVR. However my sat box is not responding to any signals sent from the harmony. I have double checked that the dish box is set to ir / rf. Also, at the system info page on the dish setup options I can hit STOP and REC three times and watch the address change on the TV. However, the box still doesnt respond to my new remote. Did i waste $350 on a universal remote that controls everything EXCEPT my Satellite box? When i tried to learn commands from the old remote the software says that Dish uses a non standard protocol and that the remote is not compatible.

Yet when they were pushing the harmony hard at Best Buy and I called Logitech's tech support to confirm they stated that this remote is compatible.

Looks like I should go with the Philips Pronto or maybe the MX-900 from www.universalremote.com?

Re: HELP!! Harmony 890 with Dish VIP 612

you may not have wasted $350...but you wasted about $110 plus tax...amazon has it much cheaper.

as far as Dish, as long as you can change the Dish box to IR mode, you can control it via the harmony remote.  if you're having problems, as the other poster recommends, contact tech support

Re: HELP!! Harmony 890 with Dish VIP 612

The Dish & Bell Satellite boxes are the same and can be changed to Remote Address 1 by doing the following. By default, the Harmony will send out the primary or 'Remote address 1' version of these codes.  To change your device to use the primary remote address please perform the following; (note this is a general guide as screens and steps may not appear exactly as below)

1. With the original remote of the device go into the System and Settings screen.
2. Within the System and Settings menu go into Installation menu.
3. In the Installation menu go into System Info screen.
4. Once in the System Info screen find and note the remote address. Write this down.
5. With the original remote press and HOLD the 'Sat' button until the mode light blinks.
6. Press the '1' button, then press '#' button, and finally the 'Record' button on the original remote.
7. The remote address on the System Info screen should change from it's previous setting to 1.
8. Turn the device off and being using the Harmony. It will now work.

Hope this helps others, since most Satellite / Cable techs don't even know these steps.

Re: HELP!! Harmony 890 with Dish VIP 612

It took me 9 hours on the phone with both Harmony (they closed while I was on hold) and dish network swears up and down that the only remote compatible with their equipment is their remotes.

I resolved the issue after changing the remote address to 9 ( the first 8 didnt work even though the dish box was set to ir / rf control.) of course each time you have to update the extender and remote. bottom line, it now controls the dish box. YAY! thanks for all the help.

Re: HELP!! Harmony 890 with Dish VIP 612

I tried the step by step as you indicyaed - but the Rem Addr never changed from it's current state (3) to 1 as you said it should - but my Dish remote did stop activating the box until I hit SAT (until mode flashes), 3, #, record... I suppose resetting it - any other advice ot tips that might help?

Re: HELP!! Harmony 890 with Dish VIP 612

Wholly Moly it works! - just a little finagling with the delays - from 500 to 1500ms all was well - BTW to get to the System Screen on a VIP-612, simply open the right-hand facia door (a little push at top center of the panel and the "System" Button takes you straight to the screen!

Re: HELP!! Harmony 890 with Dish VIP 612

I am having some problems with my dish VIP612 and they told me to switch remote address to 9.  Now my Harmony One remote does not control dish receiver anymore.

Is there a way to get it to work short of reprogramming every button manually?

Thank you
