Harmony 1000 working perfectly with NYKO commands for PS3

Hello all,
:smileyhappy:   I just wanted to post that I have finally got the Harmony 1000 working perfectly with my PS3.

For anyone that has a PS3 and a Harmony 1000, they have found the limitation of the Harmony.  The Harmony does not transmit Bluetooth frequencies.

I had read several post on the use of the NYKO remote and USB dongle (receiver) to convert the PS3 to a IR frequency receiver.

The limitation was the directional keys repeating themselves.

I asked Logitech tech support for help and told them I had all the NYKO commands learned by the Harmony 1000 and working perfectly except the UP,Down, and right directional keys.  I said the Left works perfectly.

They changed a few commands and that turned out to be non-working.  They tried changing timing, no good.  They then asked me to try RAW signal learning.  Still varying degrees of repeating happened.

I then noticed they changed my only working "Left" directional command to a stock command.  Why, I have no idea.

I then told them the e-mail support question was solved so they would not mess with my commands anymore.

I was not getting anywhere anyway with them.  This is NOT a put down as they have been a big help on other problems I had in the past.

I just think the PS3 is a new thing for them.

I decided if I had once a perfectly working Left command, I could do it again and also fix the other directions.

Here is the solution that worked for me.

I left the timing at default settings.

First I went into the Device tab and clicked on PS3 with DVD and clicked Learn Commands, then checked the 4 directional keys, then learn.  NOT RAW.

The first trick to getting it to work was when it asked click "right direction key"......   I placed the NYKO remote right up against the Harmony 1000 IR learning window.  I left about 1/8" apart.  Not much.

Here is the second trick.  Do NOT Press the key on the NYKO remote. As this will send the command several times.  As fast as you can just TAP the key on the NYKO.  Now wait for the Harmony software to say Key received.

Repeat this fast TAP for each command, then upload your work to the Harmony 1000.

Test each one and if one does not work, or if you pressed it to long and you get repeating, just redo the ones you need too.

Soon you will have the directional keys working perfectly with the Harmony 1000.

These two tricks worked for me, hope they help anyone with the infamous repeating keys.

Re: Harmony 1000 working perfectly with NYKO commands for PS3

thanks for the very detailed description...I'm sure it will help others that are in need.

it may also be helpful to list your harmony account name...as people can reference that if they need to call tech support.

tech support can pull the functional commands from your account and place them into other accounts as needed.  perhaps, if you're ambitious enough, you can contact support and let them know your profile is functioning correctly...perhaps they can update the database for others

Can someone please explain this in layman terms as I have no idea what a NKYO remote or a USB dongle is.  I have a playstation 3 and the harmony 1000 and would like to get them to work together however obviously have the bluetooth issue.

Thanks,

Re: Harmony 1000 working perfectly with NYKO commands for PS3

Nyko sells a USB dongle that plugs into the USB port on the PS3.  it can receive IR commands to control the PS3 with the exception of power on/off.

it comes with a remote as well, but you of course wouldn't use that...you would use the 1000.  if need be, you can learn commands from the Nyko remote.

Thanks!  I figured it out by doing a search for the Nyko, I have now purchased one on ebay and will wait for it to come and then set it up!

Again, thanks,

Re: Harmony 1000 working perfectly with NYKO commands for PS3

Have Logitech added this into their list of devices to save people having to do this the long way?

Thanks
