Harmony 880 with Directv H-21

Ok I have programmed many Harmony's but have never run into this.  I am setting up my activities and devices which include a Directv H-21 receiver.  Everything is fine except when I go to set up my Watch TV it tells me that I do not have any devices that will change channels.  I'm sure it's just a setting but can anyone help?  Please?  Thanks!

Welcome to the forum.

It's a pretty basic one not to have run into, but it IS the usual explanation!

If not in this case then let us know.

Re: Harmony 880 with Directv H-21

In this case the best solution is to use the HR-20 device instead of the H-21. All H and HR series receivers use exactly the same commands. Apparently someone did a poor job on the H-21 that's in the harmony database. The HR-20 device is set up correctly and will give you no trouble. So you won't have to resort to the manual setup.

Re: Harmony 880 with Directv H-21

Are they classified as different types of device so that one gets recognised as a channel-changer and the other doesn't?

I had a similar problem with PVRs - one was classified correctly, the other not.

Re: Harmony 880 with Directv H-21

Sounds like that's the problem. I've seen the same issue with some cable boxes as well. My guess is if a user created the device and didn't name the channel up/down commands exactly as logitech expects, then whatever automatic classsification mechanism they have won't recognize it. In those cases the database team needs to manually review new device additions to make sure they're classified properly.

Maybe a poll is in order, so we can keep a running list of these problem devices.

I'll start:

- Directv H-21

- Motorola DCH-6200

Re: Harmony 880 with Directv H-21

Something like that happened with my PVRs. Logitech support simply would not accept what two of them are, and I finished up by sending a copy of one of their Manuals to confirm exactly what they could do - which finally convinced them so that they made the change!
