Harmony Remotes - Programming

Hi,

I'm using a Harmony One and my TV is a Westinghouse LVM-37W3. On the TV, using the original TV remote, it's possibe to set the speaker mode on the TV to either Internal Speakers (using the tv's built-in speakers) or to External Speakers (use other external speakers that are plugged in to the TV). I switch back and forth quite often and would like to program being able to switch using my Harmony One.

The way it works on the TV's remote is that you click on Menu and then browse up-down-left-right etc until you ge to the right place, then click Select and then Menu again. I don't know how to mimic the same action on the Harmony One.

Also, there are several codes in the Harmony database that seem like they migt be able to do the same thing but none of them appear to work. There available options are as follows - SpeakerToggle, HeadPhones, SoundField, SoundMode.

How can I set it up so that my Harmony One is able to switch the Speaker Mode?

Hi,

you can add the commands for the menu to the begin of the activity, don't forget to undo it at the end.

Thanks for the quick reply. Just adding the Menu option won't work because there are a series of commands AFTER the menu button that still need to sent. Also, the Menu position is not the same evertime (it remembers the last position of the menu) so how far up/down you have to go is different everytime. 

I think they right solution for this is just to find a discrete code for the speaker toggling, but I have no idea how to go about finding that code or why none of the codes that are already in the database work.

It's unusual to have a single command for SpeakerToggle but some user must have had it, for it to be in the database.

Although it doesn't work for your model of TV Logitech support may be able to improve on it or provide one from another model - so the first thing to do is report the command as not working.

In the activity as well as a command to activate the menu you need to add in separate commands to tell the activity to go down, go up, go left, select etc.  Also add in commands when leaving the activity to set the status quo. 

I'm not sure as to how to get past the fact that your system remembers where it was in the menu structure though.

Thanks for the replies guys. I finally added all the different button press combos as sequences and saved all of them as soft buttons on the remote. It sort of works for now, but I would really have liked to get the actual discrete code for it. I talked with Level 2 tech support and they said that the commands like SpeakerToggle that are available in the database are part of the language and don't eally all necessarily do anything useful.

The other thing he suggested was to call Westinghouse and ask them for a discrete code, so that's what I'm going to try.

Rather than adding the combo of commands as "sequences" and assigning them to buttons I would assign the combo I mentioned to the start of the activity (and the reverse to the end) so that when the activity is pressed is does all the commands - no further button presses.

Hi,

no problem to do so, like i already suggested in post#2. Just review the settings of your respective activities, until you come to a point where you can say: 'yes, but i want more control'. From here on you can add commands.
