Harmony One and PPA 7303 HDMI switch

Hello all,
I just purchased a PPA international #7303 HDMI switch from Fry's. I added it to my equipment and it showed up in the library, cool! But when i try to operate it, it won't respond to the remote commands. The remote it came with works great. So I then thought I would try updating the IR commands. When I did that, nothing would happen. This made me think that the receiver on my remote might be bad so I grabbed a different remote and it programmed just fine. It seems that the PPA remote must speak some strange language? It is IR, I even turned on my digital camera and pointed the remote into the lens to see what sort of flashes it does. It look like any other remote, very fast on and off flashes..But the Harmony just refuses to record the transmission..Any ideas? Should I just count the switch as cheap crap an take it back and get a better one?

Thanks!

John

Did you try learning the commands in Raw mode?

Re: Harmony One and PPA 7303 HDMI switch

I just read about that and pulled up the program and looked at it. I am at work now but will try that later. I didn't realize when you are "training" the remote it generally looks from the library which could be why it didn't work. I will try the RAW format training when I get home and report back.

Thanks,
John

Some Ones are difficult to "learn"; others impossible.

Re: Harmony One and PPA 7303 HDMI switch

Well..I tried. I tried everything, raw, totally new commands ect.. I even tried three different remotes. Still no learning. So I then thought maybe it was the mac software..So I installed it on my PC. Got the same thing. Best it would do is say it was getting a weak IR signal, and to move the remote further back or something..Has anyone else had this issue? If so what do you do? Can't believe as expensive as this remote was that they put some inferior receiver on it..

Thanks,
John

Yes, that's what happens with Ones that are "difficult" to "learn".
Try asking Logitech support for their advice on how to resolve the problem, but don't rely on the advice working.

Re: Harmony One and PPA 7303 HDMI switch

1. reduce the light in the room.
2. make the button press on the original remote as quick as possible (don't press and hold at all, just press and immediately release).
3. place a towel under the two remotes, while having them lay flat on the desk.

the One's can be quite sensitive.....

if you're using a laptop, unplug the laptop and work from battery power to do the learning.

all of these steps help reduce the interference

Re: Harmony One and PPA 7303 HDMI switch

Thanks for the help. It only took me 1.5 hours to program four buttons! I sure would be p*ssed to have to program a large complicated remote. Can't believe how hard this was. I got the four inputs programmed, and they work great when pushed manually but now I need to figure out why when I switch between activities the input selections get lost and choose the wrong one. I would understand if it were a button that each press changes to the next, but these are direct. Maybe my timings are off..But I am making progress..Thanks for the help!!!
