Harmony Setup issue

Not having good luck here. I only want to control my Panasonic CTN-1956r TV.

When trying to setup an Activity for the remote after inputing the TV, the software tells me that this Device cannot change channels please select a device that can change channels.

On the remote there are NO activities present.  So I can't turn the TV on or off.  IF I manually turn the tv on, then try to use the remote is sort of works, but some buttons yes some no.

Shouldn't be this hard right?

Any help appreciated..

Delete your activity and re-set it up manually not automatically.

Re: Harmony Setup issue

Ok did that, was able to get the "Watch TV" activity onto the remote.  However, when I press that button on the LCD screen. Nothing happens.  Using the Help button does not fix either.

Note: once the tv is manually turned on all other functions on the Harmony work (except turning the tv off)

Any thoughts?

Re: Harmony Setup issue

Most Panas need you to press the On button for a second or two before they will turn on - does yours?

Re: Harmony Setup issue

did you by any chance set the tv to 'always on' in the setup?

Re: Harmony Setup issue

hi there, no i didn't.  I'll try that tonight.  Do you think that will make a differerence?  I didnt choose that as it didnt seem intuitive.  I dont want the TV on all the time...

To answer the other post   The TV turns on very quickly whenever you touch the power button on the TV...

Re: Harmony Setup issue

no...I was making sure you hadn't set it that way...you've got it right...

some people misinterpret that setting as wanting their tv on for all activities.  you correctly interpreted it as actually ALL the time...that setting is really only needed for some PVRs to record, or when you want to control the power manually.

when you set something to 'always on' the remote thinks that it's already on, so it will never send a power on signal/command....and it thinks it needs to stay on, so it will never send a power off....it's one of a few common causes of the problem you're having....but in your case it's not the problem

what about on the original remote?  do you have to hold the power button on the original remote?

Re: Harmony Setup issue

Lost the origninal remote years ago.. I'm using a cheapo universal now and that power button has to be heald down for as long as 15 seconds to work.  But that might be a function of the thing being a Walmart cheapo....

Re: Harmony Setup issue

Then you need a "duration" on the Harmony's power command. The option may be available at Devices> TV> Adjust Power, but if it isn't you'll need to ask Logitech support to fix it for you.
