Harmony software not recognizing my cable box

I got a new Comcast Motorola DCH3200, but Logitech does not seem to recognize this model. I keep getting a "no device can change channels" error, and get into a loop trying to set up my H688.

Re: Harmony software not recognizing my cable box

when you go to setup the activity, select 'manual' at the first choice, then watch tv....

that should fix the issue for you...if not, contact tech support

Re: Harmony software not recognizing my cable box

No, I did the activities manually anyhow. It just does not recognize this model. I got it kinda working using my other Cable box.

They have the same remote controls, so should work.

But, I really want to control the volume using the cable box. I do not get this option, and do not see where to set it. I get the tv or the amplifier as choices.

And Logitech's new unannounced support changes sure suck, since I cannot get any help.

Re: Harmony software not recognizing my cable box

This is included in the database as a Cable Box> Motorola and has a full set of commands including channel up/down and volume up/down.

What is your problem in applying them?

Re: Harmony software not recognizing my cable box

The control is there, but the volume control on the harmony does not map to the volume control on the cable box. I get no choice there. The volume will either control the TV volume or the amplifier volume. The Motorola box will change the volume going to the audio outputs.

Re: Harmony software not recognizing my cable box

1. it's possible that the database doesn't have it flagged internally as a device that can change channels, but this is unlikely.  what's likely is that you haven't selected the correct activity type.  your process should be add activity, manual, watch tv, then either watch tv or watch pvr (other than tivo)....

as far as volume...yes, you will not get that choice from the cable box because the software only provides choices for devices that have speakers....the cable box does not.  yes, it has volume commands.  the preferred method is to leave the cable box volume at maximum all the time (for full potential), and then control the volume from the device that actually has the speakers (either the tv or the receiver)...

the other option you have is to answer whatever you want in the wizard, and then manually change it later.  in the setup, activities tab, customize buttons for the activity....then on the standard buttons tab, adjust the mappings of the volume up/down/mute to be from the cable box

As there are volume control commands for the cable in the database it must be possible as WA says to "adjust the mappings of the volume up/down/mute to be from the cable box".
